hardcore or casual everyone makes time to achieve personal goals they have in the game so if someone decides to put aside more hours than someone else they deserve more
you couldnt in anyway be more wrong lol

i think ppl are mistaken casual for the definition of "lazy" and hardcore for definition of "no lifers" <--100% wrong on both counts !!

    me im casual.
that means i dont live in a game...i enjoy rl, have a rl, and a job and think of a game as entertainment. i could spend alot more time in ff but i CHOOSE not to. i like the game ...i dont live for it. i would love to do alot of end game but 99% of my ls quit at the start and tbh..i dont find most ppl all that friendly on the server (but thats another story). i like a challenge, i dont mind if things take me 3x as long as others to get done. i am in no way lazy nor want anything handed to me but i am also in no rush.

(aside) but on that note i dont think ANY game should make ppl have to play 24/7 for years to get something.
to me, that is what a rl is for, not a kiddy game. but thats just my opinion.

hardcore to me means those ppl who get very wrapped up in the game, the ones that must have everything, or collect everything, win everything in order to be happy or feel like they got their moneys worth. now i think thats a tad odd looking at things from an RN perspective (i deal with alot of ppl)....but if they happy being somewhat obsessed and they dont turn into an elitist..then thats fine by me. more power to em!!

hardcore players are not better, they are not more "skilled" (no game=rocket science folks..they are all very very basic to grasp), they simply are driven to complete all aspects of the game and make it happen sometimes at the cost of rl. however hardcore players arent always in the game huge amounts of time, there are some that are simply, very efficient and still very determined.

as for ff14 what i want is a game that helps both my style have fun and those that need alot more content faster.
we all pay, we will all stay if it happens for just as many years (hardcore/casual are equally loyal to a game)

...and I stopped right there. What do you mean you have a "real life" PRETTY SURE EVERYONE HAS A REAL LIFE, or we would be the dead! I mean, come on. I hate it when people say "Oh, you play video games all the time, get a life!" That's pretty much what I got from that "Have a rl". Please, I must be missing something with this "LIFE" definition. I would sure hope someone will explain to me what "LIFE" means.

Second, stop categorizing people! I consider my self a hardcore player, but I don't fit YOUR guy's description. I fit my own definition of hardcore. as I said in my other post in this thread. I have a job, got to school, only get on a few times a week, friends, family, etc... This game needs LONGER TYME-SYNCS!!!! I want to see the few really hardcore players have the only rare(relic) weapon for 3 years, before someone like me, and 6 years before a "HAVE A REAL LIFE" person. As someone said, there is no journey in this game. Lets just wipe all the content out in one day, because you CAN get everything in one day! What I mean is, all the gear and as some people like to say "Loot" *cringe*. Anyways, laters player haters wanna be skaters.

whoever say Hardcore player are not better doesn't have a slightly idea about hardcore so stop spew nonsense.

FYI: Hardcore player have a god damn life too, try to Drill this into your brain and try to separate them as well, not all hardcore play the same style. And Hardcore =/= mindless grind do not mix them.

The difference between hardcore and casual is always several things. The common conception between the two is that hardcore players have more time to dedicate themselves to the game, and casuals do not put in as much time. One of the hardest things to do is balance the two out.

While I hate to bring WoW up, it will help bring my case out. I do believe WoW has almost perfected the hardcore/casual experience of their game with the recent 4.3 patch. Making a balance that you can do everything in a day, or play out in a week has helped those who can't put in the time hardcore plays, but can still take on the content at their own convenience with the Dungeon Finder and Raid Finder system. Changing it so you are limited to how many Valor Points you can get a week as opposed to their previous system of 70 VP a day and it resets, making you get on every night if you wanted to catch up with others.

The great thing in the end is that hardcore will get the best items first, but does not rule you out and you can get the same gear at a time of your convenience. I would say the only true disadvantage is you have to PUG with people.

I want FFXIV to go in this direction. I want to know I can be on the game at a time of my convenience, and still take on everything content has to offer. They already claimed a dungeon finder system was being put in place, so I already see them going in this direction. I believe they will eventually nail it on balance between the two. We just have to give it time for now.

Also, casual doesn't mean you are not better than a hardcore player skill wise. It is simply you can't dedicate time like hardcore can.

Casuals are about time management, Hardcores are about difficulty management. These aren't opposite ends of the spectrum.

Let me give you guys a good example:
Diablo 2 has Normal mode and Hardcore mode.
In normal mode, you play the game; get killed; respawn, and go at it once more.
In hardcore mode, you play the game; get killed, and you have to create a new character.

I'll say it again, not everything is about grinding.

There is Longer kinda content that requires groups.

Like FFXI had relic and relic weapons for dynamis. Sure causal players can get relic gear but the very hardcore will be getting a relic weapon.

Adding in 30min fight as a full amount of content doesn't help the game. There needs to be longer content period... and longer waiting periods to do them.

Right now the game is in a werid period where its still in development and cant focus on large base content. I dont see any real content coming until after 2.0. If they add anything large now they would have to do more work for them to readjust it after 2.0.

    Interesting topic.

Hardcore players could be considered perfectionists. Casuals are more laid back when playing.

Hardcore players probably set ground rules/abide by ingame etiquette. Casuals are more lenient.

Hardcore players take the game seriously. Casuals have a 'It's just a game.' attitude.

My best description of the 2 types of players.
