Not to be THAT guy, but I wouldn't say RDM isn't end-game viable, it just loses a lot of its value after initial progression (Still endgame). The logical (impossible) choice: Fencer should have been a base class for Red Mage and a viable end-game alternative acting as a second, branched job... Continues to use a main gauche rather than swapping the offhand to an ACM (aetherocrystal medium, or w/e it was called).
I definitely like the idea though. So are you thinking it'd just be more based on the melee combo, and less on casting?

I never said that RDM wasn't endgame viable. I said I wanted it to have a base class, Fencer, and that that base class should be endgame viable as a wholly melee alternative to RDM for those who like swift one-handed single-sword combat.
Consider it like Gunner and Machinist, if Gunner were then allowed to continue as a wholly sniper or gunslinger aesthetic and Machinist doubled down on its engineering and combat crafts.
(The ulterior motive being all the amazing stuff that could then pull off if cross-classing were ever made a real thing, rather than lackluster lip-service to be replaced with further lackluster systems...)
