    Regarding sword and gun...

I would like to see a Pirate themed dps class, like Captain Madison from the Sastasha dungeon.

The weapons are a Cutlass (Sword) and a Flintlock Pistole (with a very short range). Even with the pistole, it's basically a pure melee class. The pistole has the obligatory GCD ranged attack, but works otherwise with off-GCD attacks, used from short range between combo attacks, wich you execute with the Cutlass.

Personally, not at all. They're hard to animate satisfyingly, as they tend to either have your fist already inserted in <mob> or be striking at air, yet require the sense of making use of rebounds off the target in order to seem anything like actual nunchaku.

Gunblades ok and realistic. Nunchucks no.

    You make Selphie sad.

It's basically just a flail. I don't think it's supposed to be rebounding off of anything any more than Other blunt weapons. The chain is there to apply extra force to the swing.

Although in a series that has used soccer balls, dolls, paintbrushes, and crossbows that fire doggos in not sure why what realistic has to do with anything.

I never said gunblades were realistic. Nor did I say nunchuka were not. I just said that it would be difficult to animate them satisfyingly here. The animations of our slashing, piercing, and our only source of blunt damage all have one thing in common - they are drawn, quite reasonably, with enough for to strike "through" their target. A nunchuka blow can strike pretty hard, but it is not going to strike 'through' the majority of enemies we're presented with, nor will it be shoving its way through from the point of impact as might our version of snap punches (notably not a real snap punch, but w/e), true strikes, etc., while those that do not do this also show that sense of recovery through chained blows (e.g. Bootshine) without any need to sketch out compensatory physics. They are distinctly animations that should spring back and be recovered and distinctly animations that should cleave through. But nunchucks newly find that balance constantly; any intended blow can work out either way depending on your target. Yes, they probably could be broken into animations sets that will work towards one side or the other, but that dynamic versatility is exactly what I've always found so beautiful about fighting with nunchucks, and that requires by-target or by-interaction conditionals to pull off. I'm not saying it'd be impossible; I just lack faith that SE can really pull it off... and would rather see such an attempt delayed until they can decently fulfill its potential.

Edit: Also, having thought about this a while since last night, I can imagine some... slightly different means of animating their weaponskills, if some slight gameplay differences (such as certain GCDs channeling through their oGCD gaps unless replaced or swapped with something else) are permittable.

I think rather than different jobs for different weapons, I'd like to see some weapon specialization/skill tree combination options. Like a ninja who ditches the daggers to learn kama and the special techniques with that. Distance attacks anyone? Maybe a samurai using chakram the same way. Or how about a monk who learns the ways of the staff instead of using fist weapons? Or maybe a white/black mage who unlocks ways to tap into the aether through dance? There's tons of possibilities.

Even if the core aspects of the job were left largely unchanged you could add some interesting variety that way I think. You'd have to be careful to avoid a situation WoW tends to get into with it's specs where one is better than the other hands down, but it could still allow for some of that branching folks want without endlessly adding jobs.

Dancers could use war fans. They actually have a basis in Japanese history. Female ninjas would use them back in the day as a hidden weapon. They were also used to deflect arrows or signal troops. There's a Japanese martial arts style called "tessenjutsu", which incorporates said fans. If we ever get a Thavnairian x-pack, it could be worked into the lore that some people not only used fans to help cool themselves, but also used them as weapons. I was thinking it could be slanted more toward support, but the other DPS have raid buffs for crit rate and damage dealt.

That's sort of the problem they have a basis in Japanese history with Samurai not Kunoichi like most people think and of course there were 3 different types of war fans. Anyhow I don't think it fits in with Thavnairia is more middle eastern/Arabian-like so I don't think Japanese war fan styles would work too well in that theme but perhaps if we vist the rest of Othard?

If they ever make a Dual Sword Job one day (though it is a very standard Job/class in most RPGs and MMOs) I hope they use the Shuang Gou (aka Chinese Hook Swords) as the weapon of choice. It would be a interesting weapon to see being used and provide a chinese themed sword user Job in this game.
