Well then they are probably not real exclusive items or only a time exclusive since we are getting them.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
I've spent a lot more on less IRL so the cash shop doesn't bother me that much really.
if it goes f2p because of people constaltly complaing about cosmetics, im quiting because bot over run would be extermly easy in this game and good bye weekly matience. like this shop isnt even as bad as some shops, f2p games have worse... and i want nothing to do with a f2p game cashshop again, untill i came to ff14 i spent over 2k in 2 years on mabinogi just to rebirth my character to keep with in the game top level limits so i didnt die tryin to do dungons...
It's probably worth noting that, for better or worse, the model Yoshida and the team have for this game is a theme park. This is not just a metaphor for the casual nature of the game or whatever; it applies directly to the entire development and monetization model. They are developing "attractions" for the park (building largely on franchise characters, lore, and nostalgia, like most real life theme parks) that both bring people into the park (pay for admission -- in this case via purchase + subscription) and cause people to spend more money when in the park (concessions, souvenirs, and add-on services -- in this case, MogStation, merchandise, fan fests, etc.). So this model of "spending to spend more" is very much Disneyland/Disneyworld-esque. They know that there are fans that are able/willing to pay extra for the fancy souvenirs and extras, while others will just go on the rides and minimize any additional expenses. But ultimately, like real life theme parks, they know that what keeps people coming back to the park is whether people have a good time and make good memories.
There are obviously people who dislike those kinds of theme parks because they find them too crass and commercialized, but still a lot of people go. Similarly, there'll certainly be a group of players who liked the game more when it felt like this plucky success story rising out of the ashes of the failed 1.0, and feel disenchanted as if they've "sold out" now with all the added upsells/merchandizing. But in the end, like real life theme parks, they're measuring admissions and sales as an indicator of what people want and are willing to pay for.
My problem is more the prices going higher.
As a former concept artist in the video game industry, I know how games can be expensive, especially half of the cost goes into marketing...
And keeping servers running cost also quite a lot of money, especially if you add game masters / programmers / anti cheats ppl behind.
But still then, even if we take the worst of the worse, who is EA and Activision, their glamours, their guns, their sims sets...don't cost as much as on FFXIV lately.
Ppl complain because they pay a 60 euros game and still have some cash shop in them...But FFXIV it's 50 euros + 10 euros a month + more if you want retainers + mog station "optional" items...
I was ok when an outfit was 4-6 euros. But now it's 10-18 euros. The price of an indie game. :/
So I think SE is checking how far we will accept to pay and does also use that money on their other games. Because I don't see what would force such mandatory money garbing increase (app incoming...)
And yet over fifteen years later FFXI remains a subscription game. This doom say scenario of FFXIV going F2P will never happen.
Maybe we should stop asking them in the first place?
Do we really need every crap the KR, CN clients add to theeir game for 0 reasons at all but beign sold for bucks to their playerbase? Some have really questionable taste
But... the prices aren't going higher. The regional "exclusive" gear has always been $18 ever since we got the eastern togi two years ago. Account-wide mounts have always been $24 (in fact, some of the mounts like Sleipnir weren't originally account-wide and were still 24 bucks). Barding that wasn't from an in-game event has always been $10.
I really don't understand where people keep getting the notion that prices have been going up. Every item falls into a category and those categories have had the same prices for years. None of the Nezha items are priced outside of their expected category.
So can someone please explain to me why some of you seem to think that prices are going up? Is it because you saw someone who doesn't know how to math say it and decided to take them at their word instead of taking two seconds to check for yourself?
With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.
