No? I read the translation as we get ability to raise the cap from 9 to 10, i didn't see it being we get a 3rd for free behind premium app fee.

The extra retainer is locked behind a new extra subscription and a increase of cost on your existing sub.

First you need to subscribe to the Premium plan of Final Fantasy XIV GO.
Then you need to pay an additional 2 bucks on your existing sub on your active service account.

This is stupid. I want my sub related stuff to be on game only. I refuse to buy premium in the app because it offers more stuff and I KNOW it is OPTIONAL. But in this case is where MONEY for the APP is involved.
A mmorpg game should stay as game only. Dont include a app and I KNOW im jumpinh into conclusion not even tried out the app. Idc.

No today you already have a cap of x. And thus if you want another retainer you just need to pay that retainer with a sub. With the newest one you will first have to buy the sub for the app, with that you get the option to hire another retainer and after that you have to pay for that too. So they are kinda double dipping if you want another one.

Also funny how they are able to double the saddle capacity if you pay them money but otherwise server somehow cant handle it..

A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

I'm even surprised we don't have to pay an additional 'housing sub' by now seeing as how they brought the auto demolishing in game where you have to continue your sub or your house is gone.

getting to 70 is no achievement, it is how you use them. Some people craft 70-100% of their game time making tons of different items, that is how, you know what boggles my mind? your unwillingness of understanding that people don't have the same goals as you, or play the same content as you. Some full time crafters can have over 8 retainers selling 20 different items, not clones mind you like some do, and the more diversity you do, the more the strain on the inventory space. The reason for the diversity is because how sales are overall slow in this game, because people do not need them as you find most things can be done without interacting with the MB. I heard stories of people getting 50+ without knowing about the mb or retainers.

How often do you craft, how often do you gather? what do you make to craft? maybe I can add some insight on why your mind is boggled.

Anybody paying $10+/mo extra for Retainers has absolutely no room to complain about this app. It's literally the same monetization shit that the Retainers are, and the decision to rent (indefinitely) extra storage and MB space is about as close to P2W as we've gotten in FFXIV - including what this app offers.

Also, as an aside - if you've got inventory strain, you screwed up. Period. I understand making tons of different items and such - I largely leveled my crafters by uniquely completing every recipe, at least until 50 - but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to assess how much inventory will be required for X crafting list. Hell, most serious crafters use a site like Garland Tools if they're making a ton of different things, and it'll even tell you exactly how much space will be required - which is why sometimes I'd hold off on a particular craft or two, knowing my space would be taxed. If you overload yourself at that point, it's your own fault. I can't recall a single game in which you can craft indefinitely and have no inventory issues; eventually you'll always run into space restrictions. It's up to the player to assess this, and stop before they become overburdened whilst waiting for things to sell (overburdened here can also include organizational difficulties).

Christ, you're like someone who just crafted 20 different suits of armor in Skyrim and then turned around and threw a fit about the weight limit your character could carry, as if it was some entity dreamed up purely to stop you from playing exactly how you want, without a concern in the world for any potential consequences.

This bothers me too. The entire app bothers me - subscription-based games should never have functionality locked behind a pay wall - but yeah, it bugs me as well that this is a specific issue SE has used the 'server limitations' excuse with. What's next, adding another half-dozen Housing Wards, but you've got to pay a monthly fee extra in order to have access to them? The new literally gated communities in FFXIV?

Yes but i mean you still have to purchase a 8th retainer. So it don't automatically gives you a 3rd retainer with a premium sub of the app.

Is it really sub based if you get 90% of what the app offers for free?

If we're playing numbers, you're getting 10% of what the main game offers at 33% of the price. Or for legacy players, 10% of what the game offers at 50% of the price. Caveats not withstanding on either case.
