To me, this would be like WoW locking the ability to train troops and send troops on missions behind a paywall in their Legion app, with the added insult of locking bigger backpacks behind the same wall.

Except you can still manage your retainers without the app, and you already have a 70 slot saddlebag to use. I've barely touched mine.

You can manage your troops in WoW and send them on missions without the app as well. They still don't lock it behind a paywall.

And grats on having room. My saddlebags are completely full along with my entire inventory and most of my 4 retainers. Because I actually level my gatherers and crafters and send my retainers on ventures.

I have everything at 70, all my gatherers, all my crafters, and all my battle classes. I also send my retainers out on ventures, hoard materia and dye, and some glamour pieces. I have a retainer full of crafting mats as well.

It boggles my mind that people think those who don't have inventory problems don't gather or craft or make use of ventures lol.

getting to 70 is no achievement, it is how you use them. Some people craft 70-100% of their game time making tons of different items, that is how, you know what boggles my mind? your unwillingness of understanding that people don't have the same goals as you, or play the same content as you. Some full time crafters can have over 8 retainers selling 20 different items, not clones mind you like some do, and the more diversity you do, the more the strain on the inventory space. The reason for the diversity is because how sales are overall slow in this game, because people do not need them as you find most things can be done without interacting with the MB. I heard stories of people getting 50+ without knowing about the mb or retainers.

Anybody paying $10+/mo extra for Retainers has absolutely no room to complain about this app. It's literally the same monetization shit that the Retainers are, and the decision to rent (indefinitely) extra storage and MB space is about as close to P2W as we've gotten in FFXIV - including what this app offers.

Also, as an aside - if you've got inventory strain, you screwed up. Period. I understand making tons of different items and such - I largely leveled my crafters by uniquely completing every recipe, at least until 50 - but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to assess how much inventory will be required for X crafting list. Hell, most serious crafters use a site like Garland Tools if they're making a ton of different things, and it'll even tell you exactly how much space will be required - which is why sometimes I'd hold off on a particular craft or two, knowing my space would be taxed. If you overload yourself at that point, it's your own fault. I can't recall a single game in which you can craft indefinitely and have no inventory issues; eventually you'll always run into space restrictions. It's up to the player to assess this, and stop before they become overburdened whilst waiting for things to sell (overburdened here can also include organizational difficulties).

Christ, you're like someone who just crafted 20 different suits of armor in Skyrim and then turned around and threw a fit about the weight limit your character could carry, as if it was some entity dreamed up purely to stop you from playing exactly how you want, without a concern in the world for any potential consequences.

The entire app bothers me - subscription-based games should never have functionality locked behind a pay wall - but yeah, it bugs me as well that this is a specific issue SE has used the 'server limitations' excuse with. What's next, adding another half-dozen Housing Wards, but you've got to pay a monthly fee extra in order to have access to them? The new literally gated communities in FFXIV?

^This. Its funny that people complain about it now despite the fact that we have those extra retainers for years now.
Im not saying that the app is good. But going by some peoples logic in here the P2W factor has been part of this game for a long time now.

2 paid, and I could condense that into just the 2 free if I felt like it, but I like having 1 of each gathering retainer and a battle retainer.

I craft when I need stuff, and i gather the mats that I need. I only hoard dungeon or rare mats, because the rest are easy enough to get on demand, especially when you have friends willing to help gather for stuff.

I stopped crafting to sell extensively once I got a house and furnished it. I have 50mil, I don't need any more gil atm.
