Iunno, to me immersion hinges upon sticking to the foundation laid out in the game world. I can accept a game working within a foundation of multiple cooperating races / species and involving magic. I can also accept a game wherein dungeons are entered into via a magical Duty Finder, because sometimes compromises are needed for the sake of gameplay.

Glamours, on the other hand, defy the foundations laid throughout the game world. It defies the clothing conventions of NPCs in the vast majority of cases; it defies the foundations laid by the gear system, wherein there's a strong correlation between one's defensive prowess and the thickness of one's armour. Hence, for me, it shreds the immersion a good bit more than a bolt of lightning coming from a BLM does.
