The game has a T rating: Content Descriptors: Alcohol Reference, Animated Blood, Language, Suggestive Themes, Violence
Other: Online Interactions Not Rated by the ESRB (Windows PC, PlayStation 3)

The game itself has foul language, if people don't like it, they shouldn't play. If they don't like to play a game where others can critique their performance (especially in a competitive environment), they shouldn't be playing a game where there are other people with differing opinions. Play a single player game, or just play with friends. You can't expect everyone everywhere to agree all of the time, that's unrealistic. Companies shouldn't be held to ridiculous standards that it's playerbase and their behaviors are somehow reflective of the company. Just give the option to mute and keep moving.

If people would read the quest to unlock feast, they could have a little idea what to expect and what not. So even lore wise they prepare you for it, its your choice if you want to be part of it lol.

"I don't recall seein' yer ugly mug around here before. Hm? Ye say that Rhiki sent ye!?
She said she was sendin' an adventurer, not some simperin' sea louse! Bah! If I'd known it was yer sorry hide I'd be dealin' with, I'd have spit on yer recommendation papers and tossed 'em into the briny deep! But─much to my chagrin─ye made it here in one piece. So listen up! They call this place the Wolves' Den, but yer no wolf. No, yer the runt of the litter─a whimperin', droolin' pup who'd be lucky to suckle one drop from yer mum's teat before yer bigger siblin's grabbed ye by yer neck and tossed ye aside to starve like the wretch you are!
Stand up straight, maggot! This ain't no place for the faint of heart, and I give yer sorry arse till dawn before ye run home with yer tail between yer legs, cryin' for yer mum.
Yer beyond help, but because I'm feelin' so godsdamned generous, I'll give it to ye anyway! If ye've a mind to learn somethin', come back and I'll beat it into ye good and proper. And next time ye show yer ugly mug, I want to see fangs! Dismissed!"

What folks complain about isn't harsh language. What was dragging PvP into the mud was bullying and abuse, pure and simple. It's belittling, and mocking folks to relieve frustration at poor performance (not always on the part of the target; scapegoating was prevalent as well), poor sportsmanship, and poor attitudes on the parts of winners and losers alike. This kind of thing is discouraged in just about ANY kind of competitive sport - but the options available for discouraging it in online sports are much more limited.

We're not talking about good-natured smack-talk. We're talking about communication legitimately intended to undermine players' confidence and feelings of self-worth in an effort to drive them away from the game - something which is in itself patently absurd given that PvP is ALREADY struggling to maintain an adequate amount of participation.

As for the NPC "preparing you for it", taking abuse from a live human being is an entirely different thing from taking abuse from an NPC - and more than that, this NPC is clearly mimicking a "drill sergeant" style, widely recognized as a very impersonal form of abuse, one intended to break down the target and build them up into a stronger person. The filth being flung about by players was anything but impersonal, and entirely neglects the "build up" aspect.

The problem in the old PvP was, that you could do a lot of rookie mistakes. You could wear diadem gear, or gear which barely met the ilvl requirement which meant less secondary stats, then you have gear that people shouldn't wear at all like dexterity, intelligence, strenght gear as a tank. Before the match even started it was clear who would win. And who wouldn't get angry at somebody if you tell the guy what he needs to change but he literally does the same mistakes for several hundred matches. Then people could have not unlocked their jobskills, some never used the extra 5-6 pvp skills which could be even traited further. Another major disadvantage because those were really strong.

Feast wasn't so easy 2 explain that you can tell the guy everything he has to know in 1 minute preparation time.
It's just some western mentality that a lot of players don't see a reason to get informed before they join ranked PvP, they expected it to be like any other casualfriendly content in the game, where you just go in say hi and everybody is happy. But what happens is, they lose. And this game is good at giving you everything you want in PvE, because you can't practically lose you just have to try another time until you win. But in PvP a lose is permanent, and it isn't you ofc who did the mistakes because you always won in all the other content...right?

Well whatever, the made it now very basic and casualfriendly, but it feels boring because the gameplay doesn't allow much dynamic situations. We have to realy on countdowns in order to kill anything at all, which still often fail. Generally, I see less topics to rage about than before with old PvP.
People get banned and reported for stuff that happens in PvE content, I dont see why PvP cant be the same. If you are stuck in a 24er raid because some players cant handle mechanics and wipe you for 30min, the chat is more toxic than PvP ever was. And a PvP match is only 6min and not 1 hour...

In any PvP game you have shittalk and toxic players, but there are very simple measures to counter it. You can mute, blacklist, report to just name a few. They decided to just block all communication, and guess what all PvP players have done... they created linkshells and discords, because they still need to talk serious with each other even if the game prevents it. SE seems just not wanting to moderate the content or deal with the reports. You shouldn't talk about e-sports if you can't handle those minor pvp related issues.

Good PvP needs communication or you wont notice what you did wrong or how to improve. It actually helped to some degree, especially in the old PvP.

Where is the defend quick chat button? Sexy D is a beautiful thing, in other sports and game fans appreciate good defense, but we have no chat to communicate to our teammates to play defense.

Well, and SE's opinion on that is:
    Naoki Yoshida:
I completely understand that it would be better for advanced PvP players to be able to use full chat functions. However, the data clearly shows that a greater number of new players have joined the content after we removed chat functions—this is a fact that we cannot dispute. From this, we can tell how much harsh language was becoming an impediment to new players and hurting their participation. I believe that this change is something that is inevitable not only for FFXIV, but for all PvP games.

As for the topic, I'd suggest implementing an official Burst Counter/Countdown while you're at it. Much like the "Burst Ready" announcement, people already do those via macro, because of how important coordinating burst has become. I mean, one could also reduce the importance of burst, but let's not go there. I'll just start fuming and flailing at people again and I just got back from a PvP forum break.

If they did it, it would probably be on a server all its own, and really, how many people would join? There are barely enough people to sustain PVP in this game as it is (sadly).

"We want bunny suits for guys!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Ishgard housing!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Viera!" -- OK! ✅
    "We want Cloud's motorcycle!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Blue Mage!"-- OK! ✅
"We want the ability to earn past Feast rewards!" - HAHA no that's sacred.
