    FFXI:
Getting signet, picking a location, designing an appropiate build for the party based on it, getting to the camp, talking to set upa skill chain strategy based on what you're fighting, pulling safely, hate managing (sneak attack and such), skill chanining, magic bursting. Fights last minutes.

    vs

    FFXIV:
Gather 8 misc guys for EXP bonus, teleport basically anywhere and start running to bash crap around that are pretty much outside. Fights last 3 seconds at most.
Skill chains and magic bursts? How very 2005 of you. By the time most people hit the 40s/50s the game turned into a big number epeen spam fest. Don't act like skill chains and magic bursts were ever anything more than a novelty.

I remember sometime around 2009 I was in an exp party leveling something for the heck of it and someone MB'd on accident and they said "wtf is a magic burst?"

also there was always chances of things to go wrong in ffxi, wipe on imps and what have you ...but most people new what they were doing in that game to make it feel like a breeze. most fights were dynamic, and at the very least for mages took some skills in dispelling and removing debuffs.
Reading and research are hardcore skills now?

    You begin casting Dispel.

    You cast Dispel.

You're Dispel removes the Crawler's defense up.

    "I'm so &*%^ 1337!"

without that time then why play or pay for a mmo? time is what a mmo was and should always be about, you pay by month to enjoy it, if it shortens in time spent ...it only satisfies you as a person without that much time, but in general you understand then that your paying for your items. no matter how hard the content can be, if it takes you a week, you payed that month for that piece of gear. it's a simple way for a mmo company to sell cash shop without it really being there.

either way a journey/grind to endgame should be there, cause "END"game happens at the end, the main part is prior to it as long as its done right and in fun manner. even if it to be a short run to endgame, then SE is doing it all wrong with grinding anyway, then it should be threw story, cutsceens and voice overs, and cool solo/party play missions, not power level if you have people to even do it for you.
Accept in XI you payed to literally not play. What value does standing in place for 12 minutes because you just missed the airship add?

And as to the grind, people keep forgetting that you need to level multiple classes to be effective at end game. The "journey" isn't in leveling just one class and being done with it. It's a matter of leveling multiple classes potentially all the way to cap, which eventually will be well beyond 50.

Imagine if in XI you had to level three or more classes to 75 just to participate in Dynamis. It'd have harbored on insanity with how slow exp was back in the day.

What I stated was work. Work is a challenge. It took my like 5 minutes to organize a party, I have no idea wtf were you playing.
I actually want to PLAY the game I'm paying for you know. As opposed to jump straight into a field with random crap that goes down in 2 seconds against anything I spam...
On a good day the parties just seemed to fall in place. Other days, people would fake dc from your group once they realized you were a Drg or Thf or Blm or Pup.

But no matter how long anything took, that didn't make it a challenge. Remembering to run up to the guard and requesting them to bestow you with signet isn't a challenge.

Standing in one spot while the designated puller bring enemies back to you one at a time is not a challenge.

Even being said puller isn't a challenge.

The most skill XI ever took was an attention span. Outside of that you watched the game till it was time to press an appropriate macro. I'm sorry, but XI was a grind for the sake of being a grind. It's only silver lining is that it's story lines were so well written.

WoW is the lowest common denominator. Its an awful game. Saying WoW is good because it sells its like saying that eating in mc donalds is nutritional because of how many people go there.
No, it's like saying that McDonalds tastes good because so many people eat there. Which to billions of people, it apparently does taste good. Just ask any of those people who go on pilgrimages for those nasty ass McRibs.

Most people around here dislike WoW for their own reasons, but 11 million people agree that WoW is worth the monthly fee.

I personally don't get why the world is so in love with Skyrim. But I'm not going to sit here and try and make it out to not be what those millions of people see in it.

    1. Its one of the easiest MMO's, where you dont need Skill at all. ( Yes, i played it and it was easy to reach the Top )
Again, the only "skill" XI required was an attention span. Oh, and copious amounts of caffeine.

    2. There is no "hard" content at all, so everyone feels like they are good Gamers.
Spamming that voke macro when the HNM spawned ... SO HARD!

    3. Its no Problem for Players to buy Gold with Real-Money, since China monopolized the Game. ( Yes, there are Players which play's Game for Reasons like that ).
Because every time SE burned legitimate players to try and cut out RMT, it worked so well. Yes, depriving players of a decent means of acquiring gil really made them less likely to buy gil from Xkhdjkasld who kept up a nice /tell rotation of the entire server reminding everyone of how cheap it was.

That way it's right in the player's face that they could make twice as much gil for half a month's sub fee as they'd be able to make in a single month on their own.

    4. They throw out tons of Commercials since they released, so everyone know it. ( A lot of People dont even know about FF-MMO's )
Yeah, the "we're not going to advertise" tactic is really working in SE's favor.

    5. You can play it on crap-PC's, which is the majority of WoW-Gamers. ( They wouldnt even be able to play FFXI or FFXIV ).
Yeah, shame on Blizzard for making their game accessible to the masses. SE's the real smart cookie in that category. Release XIV on an unoptimized engine so that it'll fry computers that meet even the recommended specs...

Yeah, it really takes a superior machine to run XI compared to WoW.

    6. 20% of those 11.000.000 Players are probably RMT's.
    Etc etc.
Ah, about 2,000,000. Four times the size of XI's playerbase at its peak.

Not gonna requote all that ridiculous crap you spewed into this forum, but you need to get a reality check man. This quoted statement alone is so ridiculous i actually laughed out loud. 11 Mil was never WoWs sub level. It's acually a well known fact that Blizzard counted every single three hour net cafe loggin in china as a new sub.

A couple things you should be made aware of.

    1. This game no longer requires you to level multiple classes.
    2. Each class is supposed to provide the player will a full characters worth of experience
    3. Things like airship rides are designed to make a living world, something FFXIV is severely lacking because they keep removing everything that provides that atmosphere.

People who actually love MMOs don't want this game to be the next WoW. WoW single handedly killed this genre by bowing down to the casual player base. Blizzard made a massive profit, but the industry lost its respect. WoW's influence has only served to dumb down every MMO that has come after it in the hopes of recreating its mindless Casual gamer Sub haul. The biggest example of this is FFXIV allowing users to get every Class to level 50 in a single month. This game's XP curve is an embaressment to the genre and it's player created UI mods and built in easymode emnity and agro warnings will only serve to make things worse.

And single-handedly killed the genre? It breathed new life into it, LOL! MMOs were never as popular until WoW revolutionized the genre, it didn't kill it! Players saw the light when WoW changed MMOs from being a job into being a game that is actually fun to play!

Only masochists such as yourself think grinding non-stop for hours on end on the same monsters in the same area is actually fun...

I could go into every single Point and turn it, but it doesnt matter really. I Played WoW, FFXI, FFXIV all to its peak so i know the difference. I ran WoW really smooth when it came out and had HARD Probs when FFXI came out, so the minimum Specs dont mean Shit.

Same with Skill.. no Skill for FFXI? That is why most RDM's failed Period, no need to speak of Stunning Cerb's TP Moves. Or low manning Niddy, Khim etc. I dont even need to compare pre-Abyssea HNM Fights to WoW, since FFXI is on a way higher level period. In WoW it was always Gear > Skill while it was in FFXI Skill > Gear. Of course you were in need of Gear, but you get the Idea ( maybe? ).

WoW compared to FFXI will always pull out ridicilious Discussions. It was always like that and will be always like that, so i will stay low on the ongoing discussion but my opinion stays.

    D-Riiiiiiiiiiiing.

Again, all it took was an attention span and the ability to read to do any of that.

In a stun order? Wait till someone else's macro tells you "/p Just used stun <p2>, you're up!"

Then "Mob uses x skill" *Press macro*. Rocket science, I know.

XI was always Gear > focus > "skill". The sad thing about XI was that there was one or two items per slot for each role and that was what you spent the entirety of the game trying to get. The vast majority of gear in XI was crap, which is why a DD was damn near expected to have an SH ready and waiting for when they dinged 57 despite it costing millions of Gil for most of the game's life span.

You don't like WoW, I get it. I don't either. It's not my cup of tea. But facts are facts.

But the same could be said for XI when it was released. It took 235,550 exp to go from 1-50. In XI's early days, 5,000 per hour was considered a rocking party. So to go from 1-50, the first cap an otherwise empty game, would take a dedicated player all of 48-50 hours.

    Sound familiar?

The fact is, WoW has had about 11-12 million players. XI peaked at about 500,000. Success is success. These are facts.

SE intended for XIV to compete with WoW, and with how much money they have sunk into it, they have no choice but to follow through on that vision.

The mechanics of XI, those archaic and obvious time sinks where you literally just stood still, just won't pay the bills anymore. SE wants to make an MMO with mass appeal. Get used to it. No one finds those old MMO "standards" fun. All game genres evolve.

It's like saying Call of Duty needs to be more like Doom. I know change is scary, but it's okay, we'll hug it out and survive together.

I think your mistaking the 24hours in a day with how long people actually take to hit 50 in a PL party. when people take a "Day" to hit level cap in XIV that doesn't mean 24 hours.

    *edit*

I would also like to know where you got that when the level cap was 50 that 5khr was "Great" exp.

Because unless your Japanese you weren't playing the game until the level cap was 75.

06/25/2002 First Players Reach Level 50
From the start, the level cap was set to 50, but this was not told to the players. On this day, the cap was first discovered when the first players across all worlds attained level 50.
That was a little over a month after the game's release on May 16th.

I started playing in April 2004. 2-3k an hour was the norm. 5k was a good party. At that point it was the same exp curve as release.

It still only took an average of 48 hours of actual exping to get there. The rest of it was tying to build parties, exp loss on death, walking for hours to find a decent camp and a pleathora of other annoying and blatant time sinks.

And it only takes a "day" in XIV if you have a very dedicated group willing to pour a majority of that day into it.

But my point in mentioning how short the grind to the first cap in XI was to illustrate that, similar to XI, it wouldn't have taken that long for a dedicated group. A player could have capped in XI then in under a week if they really wanted to.

But to gain the kind of "absurd" exp that people report takes already having a class at 50 capable of AoEing. At that point a player should know how to play any role in the game.
