Gah! I'm sure this is a rhetorical question, but I feel like a jerk if I don't respond when someone is talking right at me. Forgive me in advance for probably coming off as a nerd. I use those illustrations (not mandatory, any one of them) as examples because they're relatable. Almost everyone has experienced one of those things at some point in their life and didn't enjoy it, thus I use them as evidence of the fact I began with: People often participate in things they hate. Since it happens in real life, it will happen in virtual life too for similar reasons. You do the thing you hate, because there's something else to be gotten out of it. You go to a family reunion because its better than having your aunt nag you for not going, you give gifts because you feel you'd be looked down on if you didn't, you work an unfulfilling job because you want to be able to afford to go out to dinner every now and again. Likewise, those of us who dislike Eureka do it, not because we like it, but because there is some other reward besides enjoyment and that is the AF, Relic, and vanity items.

I would argue that is poor game design.

Maybe it's because I have been playing mmos for a very long time so I'm a bit jaded when I say you're not always going to like all the content. Thankfully you do not have to do everything, but as you said yourself sometimes you have to in order to access something you would enjoy. I have accepted that sometimes I have to soldier on before I get to the point in which I'm having a truly pleasant and fun experience. Ideally this would never happen but nothing is universally loved. Someone will always hate something.

As much as I love Eureka, I think it is heavily flawed. I enjoy it but I can see why others do not. That mobs are super dangerous appeals to me enough that I'm happy enough with how it is, but not every player is the same. People like different things for different reasons. Eureka doesn't have much variety so there aren't several avenues for people to experience different reasons to love or hate it. It's a huge zone but it basically only has one major thing going on. This is why it's so divisive. The lack of variety means it attracts less types of players. If you don't like the one major thing it offers, then you won't find it fun.

Eureka has incredible potential but it's a huge zone with dangerous monsters and not much else. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a huge zone to have a huge amount of activities. I can certainly relate to people who criticise it for this reason. I enjoy dangerous mobs but I'd like to be able to enjoy other things too. For me this is where Eureka fell short. It needs to be fleshed out significantly more. Much more.
