    I've heard that, but we also had heard PotD / Diadem would be updated. Diadem required a relaunch, so it only got updated once. PotD only got updated once, and we're missing the updated one in 4.0 still. I just don't feel their track record on any content that doesn't break the core loop (MSQ, dungeons, primal, 8-man raid, 24-man raid) is spectacular. I feel even more strongly about that when you look at how they cut the dungeons to deliver more content but we've ended up with the same or less overall.

    I hope I'm wrong. I just don't have a reason to believe I'm not.

    With PotD, they are supposedly adding a new PotD at some point during 4.x; I’m assuming that it will function much like the current one, but allow players to go to Level 70 instead of capping at 60. Sadly, they aren’t going to upgrade the old PotD, and I do wonder if it will die the moment the new one comes out. It may not, depending on if people want to do it for the Floor 200 goods, but it’s difficult to say.

    My biggest concern with Eureka is that it will end up like Diadem. I sincerely hope that the developers took the feedback for both Diadems to heart (PLEASE, no FATEs in Eureka...), because if Eureka fails, or ends up being a third Diadem, they are going to be in trouble. As for it’s updates, they have said they plan to expand it, and the relics are going to be directly tied to Eureka progression. So hopefully it will remain relevant far longer than Diadem ever did.

    I understand the concerns though. There isn’t a good track record of content that has any sort of extended lifecycle in this game; it more or less dies in a patch or two, or by the next expansion.

    I think it's safe to say that Eureka is not going to be any different in that regard, because it doesn't seem like they intend any of the content to be different. It will be kept on life support via the relics, but you can be pretty sure it's gonna become irrelevant come 5.0 at the latest and it might well have long overstayed its welcome by then.

    Might sound like doomsaying, but that's the realistic view here. Until the devs 'vision' changes, it's not likely the content they produce will. And even if it does, there's no guarantee they'll be able to get results.

    It kinda makes me feel bad that the developer of this game not only says that its totally fine to take longer breaks (thus loss in sub money) but also dont want to introduce long lasting content..I mean this is not a single player game where selling the game is the most important thing but that people sub for this to give them more money..do they truly hope that bringing in more new players is enough? Especially since they still have to go through all the old stuff first? We barely have more players than before SB so people seems to not stick with the game.

    A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

    I actually find it extremely confusing. They could save on resources (something that they are clearly lacking in) by making content that is designed to last longer. Instead, they have to keep pushing out a constant stream of quantity over quality.

    Maybe they are afraid that people will get bored with it but people still play stuff like PotD (maybe not the best example for long term). Make content fun with a bit of a carrot and people will play it. Make it not fun but put a huge short term carrot behind that and some will play it for a bit but it will die fast (Diadem 2.0).

    Honestly for me they still have not found the best balance. On one hand they have content that is way too short lived thus people use it a bit (maybe one patch) and after that its kind death. And then you will have nearly impossible achievements like the tiger mount that will demotivate a big amount of people before they even started it. Where is the middle to that? Something fun to grind for but not years.

    Edit: And on top of that they also release quite some of the content in beta state...I mean the glamour dresser needs to be changed to be good, perform was out and needed a big change in the next patch. Diadem was such a failure that they redid it again only to fail even faster..A lot of content should have gotten more parts like racing, Diadem, Palace of the death but are either now completely of the table or only will get an upgrade some where in the future.

    So Eureka is truly now the first new update for the mass...the same mass of players that lost a dungeon in some patches while the minority got Ultimate and a new PVP mode..I have nothing against such additions but maybe you should introduce new stuff for the masses too otherwise you will lose people there and they might not just come back after a break either..

    This may well be another bomb waiting to go off, but it ultimately comes down to two things:

    1.) If the general consensus is correct and Deep Dungeon 2 will be the tower structure in The Ruby Sea, we're going to see a split in the community and (possibly) longer queue times for both. New players would be stuck in South Shroud, while people with more progression into the game will opt for the presumably better-scaling Ruby Sea location.
    2.) Whether or not Deep Dungeon 2 resets our levels to 1 upon entry again (/can be entered by a job of any level) or whether it will start at lv60/61 (/can only be entered by jobs at lv60+), which would determine exactly how the community split occurs.

    Normally I'd have expected 4.3 to be the Deep Dungeon 2 update (since prior to SB release they mentioned that odd patches would be the "new"/auxiliary content patches), but given how far Eureka was pushed back I'm somewhat worried about its viability/relevance in general. If it misses 4.3/4.35, I don't really see them adding it to 4.4 alongside the usual MSQ/Raid rush. Maybe 4.45, but probably more likely 4.5? Who knows.

    This is another worry I have. With how far back part 1 of Eureka was pushed back I wonder how soon we'll see the new PotD or all the planned Euraka updates.
