O.o;;; Gosh, I go afk and people just blow up on here lol. First of all 11111 is the same with trigger trigger trigger(talking about shooters here). It's just on how you see it, its all a button no matter what it is. I don't know what it was like to press 1111 because I was on controller, soo to me it felt different (just assuming). I also said, I didn't expect this thread to go anywhere, I just wanted to share my opinion after playing Blade n Soul. Playing blade n soul also made me realize on how cool jumping COULD be. If its your standard jump up and down, no thanks, but add style and grace to it, yes please. I was just saying they should have just build apon that battle system, and not waist resources. I think if the would have kept it, they could have had mid air attacks for, ya know, jumping. I know it's to late, I just wanted to share my thoughts. That is all lol. BTW I didn't want AA in the first place.

Auto-attack was a godsend for me but that is mostly because I have to deal with lag so typically my attacks would be less frequent than most people's. Melee classes can reuse skills and accumulate TP fast enough to be always doing something in most battles so if they had to press attack every time as well it would be too much and they would have to stop fighting entirely to type something. Magic classes are close to this, however, since I don't think mages ever use their auto-attack or even engage their character during combat.

It's a fine system for combat but it only fits into games with the same theme as a whole.

    My two cents:

In many FFs (pre-FFX), it can be about strategy, but if you really want to have a go at it, put the game in active mode and increase the battle speed to max. Also, don't grind. Some of the games you can't help but grind, but if you can help it, just go through the game as it should be.

Second, I enjoy FFXIV's battle system now. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the original battle system as well. I was even afraid that when they announced auto-attack, it would be like FFXI all over again and be slow. I was the one in parties who often spaced out due to the pacing of combat.

I was dead wrong. It is much faster paced and much more fluid than FFXI's battle game play. I have to actually keep an eye on the mobs I am facing, otherwise I'd be dead. I also have to keep everything up and make sure to use my skills as often as I can.

All in all, yes it can be improved, but I'm happy with the change. I can't wait until 1.20 too.

I feel like there should an easy option to toggle auto-attack on and off to suit these players...

at worse the non auto attack system needed fixing for it to be a little more fun, the game was obviously put together just to launch. if it came out right it could of been good. take dcu witch i just started playing since it went f2p. you push like 2 buttons and do all the moves, its just how fast or long you hold the same button and does many different moves. this would of worked with non auto attack moves very well.

second lets not kid ourselves maybe a keyboard player might think different but there is only a hand full of buttons you pushng and it's all just mentality of what you think your wasting your time with. pushing 111111 or 1-9 don't really matter your still using your same hand any who.

only diff was and i can't stress this enough, now you can afk and leech, you can duel box easier, you can rmt faster, you can pl, you can semi afk, you can watch tv and barely pay attention again, you can type sweet nothings again to your gf or bf. these are the true reasons it was changed not cause you don't want to push 111111 all day.

Remember how you got bored in Zelda cause it seemed like you were pressing AAAAAAA all the time? Yeah, me neither.

The problems with the original combat system had nothing to do with the lack of auto-attack, and its incorporation was in my opinion the biggest mistake the new dev team has made since taking over. Unfortunately, the chances that they will undo the change at this point in development are non-existent.

The combat system will be a million times faster with the introduction of combos, stop complaining.

this, a thousand times ...this ^ he hit it right on the money.

well lets hope cause as it is now its still very very slow and overall, bad.
i see no need for a press11111 system, no need at all, but the current system is far too restricting , the animation locks gotta go,completely. doing nothing but waiting for tp for every solitary move is silly as well, the auto attacks are fine to have but indeed could be more frequent.

so much of the current battle system is still flawed and still feels like the game is 10 yrs in the past. i realize they are indeed revamping it and i can only pray to the almighty Moogle that it finally is smooth, fast paced (not necessarily fast kills just a fast constant pace to actual fighting) and realistic in design when major patch is released.

not so much focus on "tp only(<--which in itself is as slow as molassas to get) or you are just standing there looking foolish" Oo

edit: and I prefer pvp like in Tera or L2, which are nearly 1 shot/kill for most of class or at worst Aion. WoW pvp is out of question
You mean PVP that takes skill is out of the question? Sometimes it's fun to insta-gib someone, but it's terrible design. I've played 3s in WoW at 2k+ and there's times that I felt the burst was still too high even after all the resilience changes. It's impossible for PVP to remain competitive when everyone goes around globaling their opponents. It undermines the competitive spirit of PVP.

From what I've gathered from the OP
    -I like action packed games
-I believe FFXIV should include more real time brawling action
-I like to have more epic cutscenes
-I just wanted to state my opinions, not an actual suggestion or feedback.
So, basically to sum it up, I'm getting this from the OP

    As for those who want to be more informed;
Yoshi said in an interview with 4gamer about how he envisions the battle system,
    (translated) http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...JP-4gamer-site
    (original) http://www.4gamer.net/games/092/G009287/20110621030/
4Gamer: In MMORPG root structure those 2 types seems to be the standard. Recently seeing titles which add feature close to an action RPG.

Yoshi: When thinking FFXIV it doesn’t seem like hack and slash type won’t do, and with FFXIV graphics and motion frame it doesn’t look right to have moves that doesn’t look realistic. First making the standard type and adding a FFXIV style on top of it. Making something original, not FFXI or First FFXIV, not WoW, not EQ. may sound nice but would probably become something too complicated for anyone to understand, and hard for party plays. I am not a genius so it’s not possible for me, I am game designer.
As for cutscenes, it's nice to have the opening scene to lay the foundation of the game, and the cutscenes moments for opening battles and so forth. However, remember we're not watching a movie here. We're playing a game.
