Perhaps I can answer both of you with my next unpopular opinion so you can understand my psychology a little better, because you're coming from a very different angle to me ...

I went through a small period of running Titan Ex DF repeatedly.

'For the drops?' I hear you ask. No.

'To help people?' Well, kind of, but that wasn't the real reason.

So what? Well, it was because Titan Ex at that time was a difficult fight for newbies to get right. Because it was DF, you got a bunch of total, unpredictable randomers. People frequently messed up. People fell off, were blown up by boulders, or otherwise completely messed up, and I love that. I can't even tell you how much I adoreit when it goes wrong.

And here's why I'm telling you a healer has a true abundance of pure spontaneity not available to other roles:

Someone failed a mechanic and died!
Should I raise them now? No, but wait, Swiftcast is down.
Is the other healer casting? No. Maybe their swift isn't up!?
Any other raisers in the PT? No.
Shall I hard cast? No, wait, big AoE incoming I've gotta heal through ...
RIGHT, done. Can I raise yet? Five seconds on swift, tick-tock, tick-tock ...
Is there an incoming mechanic? No ...
I'll wait for swift, and pop off a few Malef- CRUD! Tank forgot to shield that tank buster! Gotta heal him with Essential Dig- oh fiddlesticks, I used that already, hard cast Benefic 2 ...
Right done, swift ready, gonna cast that ... BAAM! Done. Gotta keep an eye on them when they get up so I can top off and protect ...
Throw in a bit of DPS while we're waiting ... Crap, other healer's dead. Gotta hardcast the raise now but make sure PT is topped off for next mechanic ... Benefic 2 on the one I just raised and Aspected Helios cos that's about to drop, right, hardcast raise ... NO WAIT ORANGE CIRCLE AOE!!!
No, but I've GOTTA get them up for the next set of mechs cos I can't solo heal that ... I've gotta stay here, take the blow, I think I can survive it ...
Raise complete! I'm at 15% HP. Essential Dignity is down, swift down, lightspeed still down, gotta hardcast benefic but FFFFUUUU mob's casting the AOE! I've gotta cast Benefic 2 and pray to all the deities I'll finish the cast before the mob does so I can ...
    PHEW! I'M ALIVE I'M ALIVE I'M ALIVE!
    Mob dies.

You can't tell me than a rotation of Ability > Ability > Ability > Ability holds a single candle to being a healer when the pt's in dire straits. In the worst of times, the healers are the only thing between everyone and inevitable death. We make split second decisions that will make or break your cosy little run.

So after all of that, here's my next unpopular opinion:

When people mess up, I love it to death (with the exception of clear parties of course, because the success of a clear is satisfaction enough). If Rabanastre isn't on the verge of at least one wipe I'm bored to tears. If saltmeisters all got their way and we were all perfect, this game would be as dull as hell for me and I'd quite happily quit.

His example still stands, except you used an example of a car, where that example seems a bit out of place w/o context.
So to put your example back into context, "in a car race".

You attempted to make it sound like we're comparing the car to average everyday casual driving, and then said his comment makes no sense.

(And just to point out, I disagree with him. Not for the statements sensibilities, but because flying actually is fine. If anything, I'd like to see more content built on vertical layouts, rather than horizontal layouts.)

For me, I dislike the favoritism they show to certain demographics, such as PvPers- namely the fact that they get permanently exclusive items while other groups either have nothing, or have exclusives they once could claim slapped on the Mog Station; into an Amazon promotion; or slapped into a promotion, followed later on by Mog.

Either have no exclusives at all, or give each gameplay access to its own series that people aren't forced into content they dislike to get something special and/or spend real money on it.

Don't devote special resources strictly to one group.

I'd much rather have pvp (and pve) exclusives than have anything else added to the Mog Station.

I'd have to agree that Healers have the most erratic game play. When you join a party you don't how they are going to effect your play style. Like, when I run as BRD I know I'm just going to be doing my rotation as best as I can. As a healer? I don't know if people will screw up and die or what. I can't just focus on always playing the same, I have to adjust how I play to fit the group. Some groups I have to heal more often, others I can basically act as a third dps. It's just the luck of the draw!

Evict everyone from their homes, reimburse them their gil, demolish all homes, and just start over with a new and better system so we can all be done with this nonsense.

    Favoritism for PvPers:
    • Took 3 years to finally lift GC restrictions as asked and begged for. Queues improved immediately.
    • Season 3 top 10 minion prize turned into an achievement award when a collector (who otherwise would avoid PvP) complained. Top 10 offered an accessory (usually a participation award for the season), people grinded achievement minion before top 10 got their prizes.
    • Feast chat restriction despite near-unanimous disapproval, skewed data used to justify reasoning over actual player feedback, chat restriction and "Quick Chat" replacement fail to solve core problem and create more
    • Ignored for 6 seasons on issues of wintrading and cheating. Only 3 bans for some of the most notorious cheaters so far, 2 were temporary, and one turned themselves in.
    • Still ignored on issues with rampant botting and exploiting since 4.0.
    • Sudden, drastic overhaul to the PvP combat system that worked and was arguably deeper (if unknown to most players) at the start of 4.0. Issues of imbalance not only ignored, defended.
    • Player feedback frequently requested, then ignored.
    • Secure and Slaughter left dead at level 50 through Heavensward, Secure suddenly updated, Slaughter deleted without any explanation or reason.
    • EDIT: (Yes, there's more!) Admitted failure to gather data for necessary balance changes from the Feast season 5 Pre-season. Claimed players were "too busy with Deltascape Savage" despite clearly submitted feedback threads, started Season 5 anyways.
Don't ever even TRY to say PvPers get favoritism in this game and THIS community. That's ridiculous and almost insulting.

    Thought of more:

-Not every mmo needs PvP and it shouldn't be standard just because WoW did it. Its story is PvP-centric anyway.

-Splitting PvE and PvP just divides resources and makes them both mediocre.

    - I'm for chat ban in Feast because people don't behave. It didn't work ultimately, because immature people will still make server alts to harass people, provided character creation is available. Maybe they should add an account mute for a certain time frame after each Feast match. /shrug

    - Yes PvP favoritism in the form of special snowflake items. Failure to balance classes, ban cheaters, ignore feedback, etc. are flaws of the company which are common in this game and franchise at large. Maybe if you got out of PvP/this game even a bit more you'd know that.

-SE also wants to milk Feast for revenue. Too bad it's ball-achingly boring to watch. Good luck with that.

    - Building your product on the bones of a failed project is common. That doesn't make it a good idea. Sure makes it hard to improve your game later on.

    - Loot rolls actually aren't random. Try rolling the exact same way many times. You might start to notice a pattern. Good job on that too, btw. Exploitable.

-I could go on. There's a lot not to like.

-Diadem was okay. Shouldn't have let people get OG Pegasus in take 2.
