To be honest, I think that they are not made with flying in mind, but with players that find themselves turning on a straight path. The way they are designed here, you are pretty much sure you're going to go the exact path they want you to go, in the order you need to go, and once you're done with the storyline that is to be done on that map already, you get flying anyway.
Also, there are at least three maps from the old zones I absolutely abhor. The one with sylphs (due to how the end of sylphs grounds is so far back and you have to go all the way around it), the one with Costa del Sol (which is effectively Ruby Sea without the flying to travel between the two islands) and the one with Waking Sands on it. I'm sure that there were more, just that I no longer really deal with them on a regular basis to care or remember.
Got a few things to mention here:
1) On the topic of bad zones, the Sea of Clounds. That place is a mess on foot, and almost impossible to navigate. Even the minimap is worthless.
2) Gathering is WAY too easy in this game. Where are the open-world mines, dungeons, etc like FFXI had? I miss gathering having actual danger to it because of Stealth and the lack of dangerous gathering areas like mines. Occasionally getting smacked in the face by a leshy during SB early access isn't what I'm talking about either.
3) Another one is the fact that nearly every boss fight is on a set script every time, and telegraphs only make them more predictable. Imagine if we had more councounters & poisontongues, but more random.
4) Also, what happened to the "you fall off, you're out" rule we had in most pre-SB fights? I get people hated the Bismarck & Ravana wipefests, but it gets old fast raising somebody 10+ times because they can't be bothered to push the stupid Vril button (or claim they don't see it/can't navigate to it because PS4) and then complain about the healers not getting them off the floor. Sure, there would be more wipes, but at least people would have to learn where the dang button is.
5) Probably gonna get some flak for these two little things: Tanks who think 100% Regen uptime is an absolute requirement. Its not. If its going to mostly go to overheal, you don't need it. Also, if your WHM pulls hate with their Holy spam in pre-SB content and keeps going ham on DPS without giving you opportunity to get them back, they probably know what they're doing. Its not the end of the world. In SB content though, its not a good idea usually.

I don't care for the Dark Knight 30-50 questline. I view my character as someone that likes being the WoL and helping people and didn't agree with the emotions it attributed to my character such as feeling used.
I especially disliked the journal entries which described her as enjoying slaughtering her enemies.
I'm also not a big fan of Haurchefont. I found his comments to my character in the 2014 Heavensturn event to be creepy. I'm glad his personality was toned down by the English localization team as from what I've read of the JP version I would have outright hated him.
Not sure I fully understand this but.... Essentially your saying "If my car isnt broken, dont fix it, but if it could be better (Like it being a muscle car), its as good as broken."
That seems a touch odd.
Yeah, that was a pretty big disjoint for me as well, especially since at the time I was a feminine, delicate Raen Au Ra. It was an interesting concept to explore, but I feel like it might have been better as a sort of "element of choice" series of dialogue options you had during maybe the MSQ, not a non-interactive forced side storyline like the DRK quest.I don't care for the Dark Knight 30-50 questline. R3 button (pressing right stick down) while pressing anything to highlight a hotbar will click held Vril.
Navigating to it with the touchpad IS a pain since the cursor poofs away and you have to find microscopic thing to click. Trying to go into mouse mode breaks half the buttons to make them act like normal mouse keys.
But R3 is no slower than hitting any other button.
Honestly the amount of player that don't realize just -holding- the Vril isn't enough is pretty astounding.
What confuses me about the Vril issues is that the game taught you how to use the Duty Action button earlier with the smoke bomb quest in Kugane. On my screen at least as a PS4 player it even says R3 on the button.
I guess people just forget about it by the time they reach Lakshmi.
.........
I like aethercurrents. I find it fun to look for the ones on the map. I do all sidequests anyways so I'm not bothered by the quest ones either. I feel it's rewarding to explore a zone on foot and then earn flying.
I didn't even mind the ones in the Diadem. I have fond memories of going in with FC members and taking turns attuning to the currents while someone distracted the monsters.
