Flying through the zones is perfectly fine. But navigating them on ground is just terrible, because developers made those zones all twisted up and filled them with differences in height, and added gaps all over the place that need to be circumvented. It feels like they made them like this with flying in mind, since once you can lift off the ground, you can fly over every single annoying obstacle anyways.

ARR-Zones are way more accessible for the most part, and I wish they would design future areas more like them. The Azim Steppe is a perfect example of good zone design in my eyes, empty as it may be, because I dislike taking detours around obstacles like mountains, even though this resembles reality. I'd love to see human-made optional shortcuts through them, like bridges, tunnels or stairs. But since you'll be flying anyways developers don't even bother.

It it isnt broken dont fix it... but if it could be better, it is as good as broken.

It could be worst doesnt make it "fine". Get it?

I don't see flying as an issue in this game. You unlock it with a bit of effort, but once it's unlocked it's there to stay. I also don't feel as though the game world is particularly difficult to navigate either. I suspect those complaining are the sort of players to not even bother to stop and soak up the sights of a new zone and are simply looking to rush through everything as quickly as possible.

I love nice views. Also when I first played through Stormblood I talked to every single NPC I could find, because I like how they give insight about ingame situations or just how a new area works in every-day life. I'm all in for atmosphere and details, and not the rushing kind. I guess my mind just starts seeing obstacles instead of breathtaking views, when I have to run around them several times in a row because quests tell me to.

In ARR you are way less restricted on how to reach a place on ground. Maybe this is just a side effect of those areas being smaller, but I never get annoyed when traveling in those. Most of the time flying would not even benefit you that much if it was possible in older content.

Stormblood did a better job at traveling than Heavensward did, but for my personal taste it still is too restrictive on ground. There is not much else I can say other than I wish areas were not designed with flying in mind. They do feel natural and real, which is fine! I just got stuck on walls I cannot climb up, gaps I'm unable to cross and places that scream "see this wall over here? How it blocks you from reaching your destination? Wish you could fly, huh? Well you can't, so have fun with taking a huge detour instead!" too many times.

I find their reasoning strange too..I mean if people want to run around with no shoes on and they cant manage to make it look like we are directly on the ground then just write about this and let the people choose for themselves. This may be another unpopluar opinion but I am getting a bit tired of them trying to decide whats best for us. Give us really long hair and do your best with making it look good but also warn us that it will glitch with our outfit and let people decide for themselves if they want to use it or not. I mean most of the longer hair and even some of the shorter ones are already glitching with stuff so who cares. Just stop giving us such bad arguments for not implementing something. x)

I am not sure if this is unpopular or not but I wish we would have more zones like the ARR ones and less big but kinda empty ones like SB. I find the ruby sea really boring since its a huge amount of water but barely anything in there. Making the zones smaller may increase the amount of things in it thus making it feel more alive. You know like having more NPCs there doing their routine or normal animals doing their things..

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

I think the massive, open zones fit Heavensward areas thematically. Stuff was either a harsh, desolate wasteland, or designed with the giant dragon's accessibility in mind.

This really wasn't translated as well to SB's new maps. The layouts just don't work as well, and swimming/diving felt wasted in some zones. "Here's one quest that reminds you this lake area can be dived in, thx."

Truth be told, I don't even remember any sights in HW/SB areas because I just flew right over them. It turns the game world into the same kind of cardboard cutout scenery as those distant imperial castrums and it keeps throwing me off guard when I actually have to do something inside a cave, because I am used to just follow the minimap in no collision land and then swoop down at the location.

Dunno if this is unpopular or not, but the menu system (especially for retainers and max level vendors) is super clunky and awkward and could use some cleaning up.

I want some brighter hair color options, like a true red or a brighter blue.

I kind of want more underwater stuff. There's that whole area under the salt flats in the lochs that looks cool by hardly has anything in it. There's some wasted potential with diving in this game.

I’m honestly laughing at folks calling the terrain in this game difficult to navigate without flying. Methinks they haven’t played WoW recently (or at all, perhaps).

They should release a zone that's nothing but a staight flat line so that it's not difficult to navigate.
