My questions are in regards to the EXP penalties for death.
I keep seeing the nightmare scenario of players getting tagged by a mob way too powerful for them (say, hunt A/S rank levels) and purposely or not causing havok to other players while kiting it around.
On the positive end, it's punishing innocent players, and the negative, it's a terribly easy opportunity to troll.
I dont see this being an issue. If you que with people you dont know sure its a possibility but its an instance not a open area zone.
Oh, yes, that is distinctly possible! People did (sorta) hang with the second iteration of Diadem for longer than expected despite everyone insisting that they'd rather be buried than do more FATEs. Just depends on how much of a chore it is to earn elemental EXP and how severe the penalty is in the end.
It won't matter if I'm partied with the person in question or not if this is hunt mob rules.
The possibility of ME losing MY progress because of another player's actions is not the kind of game I like to play, full stop. This isn't a competitive sector of FFXIV, either.
It just screams troll bait.
So is the dyeable artifact gear our relic gear? Because if thats the case we have just another set that is reused..thus would not feel that great for me to put in all the work to get something that can now just be dyeable..
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Then I suggest you to move to another game where everything is instanced. No matter the game/content you do, there is always the possibility of anyone trolling their way no matter what. This sort of thing has been happening for years in any multi-player game. MMO or not.It won't matter if I'm partied with the person in question or not if this is hunt mob rules.

Currently, there is no way you can lose your progress because of another player trolling. Maybe only in PotD, but even there you can save your progress up until 100. That is why I like FFXIV. But Eureka will be different. You have 144 different people fighting for same mobs. Here is a simple way to troll: as tank pull huge amount of mobs. Drag them to the party you want to troll -> shirk healer- > mass taunt -> they all dead. Then I suggest you to move to another game where everything is instanced. It was always going to be if the gear was going to be job locked, if not they'll have to make another artifact gear set which is probably more effort than it's worth
I think it’s going to be one of those things like diadem where you benefit from experiencing it when it’s released. You couldn’t do an emergency mission now unless you planned it with a huge group of people. I’m glad I experienced it when it released.
You completely missed the point here.
Trogvar understands what I mean. Also consider the fact players may very well struggle to get to NM mobs, so may actively try to keep other players down to improve their chances to get kills on the most powerful mobs.
I guess perhaps a better way to explain this is this is Eureka is the hunt mentality of zerg rushing the instant a pull happens, in a Diadem, with FFXI's outdated and user unfriendly leveldown system at every mistake, with added bonus of breeding joint player rage over credit. The whole thing is to cater to players that want more unforgiving content and/or more FFXI like content.
It just rails against the trend FFXIV has been doing to make the game more broadly appealing and accessible. Both things I wholeheartedly support.
I think, too, I'm also baffled that we waited so long for our Relic Grind, and it's a system to actively removes players from other content verses placing them back in.
