Because people who don't understand how it works will just give up on it and try to get more room by getting more retainers.
Sadly SE's ambiguous messaging caused this. By speaking of this as a new system that would work with the "old glamour system", it gave a lot of people the impression that it would be something more than what it is now. They should have made it clearer that this is just a shortcut way to essentially do multiple "cast glamours" in one go and not a whole new glamour system on top of the old one that is "equipped".
People who do realize that, and who can tolerate that for right now this can only be done in a city, can save a lot of space
If they didn't want to push us towards more retainers then they wouldn't have increased the amount you can now hire at the same time as not providing a glamour log. The glamour toilet is just that, you get to flush your items away...
My main concern right now about the sytem (aside that is annoying not to be able to change plates at any place) is that I can no longer apply glamour manually on any piece stored in the dresser. So if for example I just want to use this piece in a plate but also would like to be able to glamour it in a job that's not using plates I just can't. Would have to put up an entire plate even if the other pieces or glamour I'm using for that job are not stored in the dresser for any reason (specially since there is a 200 limit that is fewer than it can initially seem). I know it has already been said that the limit both in dresser and plates is going to be expanded overtime, but I also really hope when we get the dresser as furniture we will be able to apply glamour manually as well. Could be the case that since it's at the inn for now and you cannot cast glamour in there it has that limitation only there, but since we don't know for sure I'm quite hesitant to store a lot of my items in there.
You can.
Use 9 plates for set, leave the 10th one for "manual" application.
10th plate:
put on "non plate" job
clear 10th plate
put the gear you want to glamour into plate
apply it
switch to next "non plate" job
clear plate
put the gear you want to glamour into plate
apply it
The first job won't be affected (unless they are literally sharing the same gear, but that's no different than if you were using Cast Glamour to re-glamour shared gear).
Sure it means your set won't be saved since you're always clearing it, but you'd have to do that if you were doing a full manual application too.
This is certainly inconvenient because it means giving up a plate from becoming a long term set, and it means going to an inn to switch every time, but since you have to be in a major city to apply plates anyway, an inn isn't that far off (except for Gold Saucer, I don't think it has an inn).
When they eventually do make it so people can use plates outside of major cities, this small inconvenience will become larger, as it would mean a person would have to go back to a city just to go do this.
I do hope they eventually allow people to just right click on a dresser item (or armoire item via the dresser) to apply without having to allocate to a plate. That would be nice.

Didn't actually thought of that because I was planning on using all plates to at least cover most combat jobs. I mean, is a nice tip but it is greatly inconvenient too. Really hope we get updates to this system very soon.
The only parts of the new system that bother me is the limit of 10 and the fact that there's no way to make it apply to gearsets versus the gear itself so like people who heal on multiple jobs can have different looks on the same gear. I can see why people who play a lot of jobs dislike it, but I'm currently hopeful (despite this being SE lmao) that this will be vastly expanded upon the future.
I also don't care for how the mogstation outfits that cost like $12+ USD aren't armoire enabled and that they have to be added to the dresser to be used in this system. Big money outfits should really be armoire enabled from the time they're introduced. I'd never buy one of those myself, but I've had friends that had to use their 1 time only GM item restore to get their stuff back after not realizing that they wouldn't have the item itself anymore.
how is unlimited glamour ridiculous? ridiculously cheap, more like.
