Archer is not a Bard...but Bard is an Archer.
Papa was a rolling stone...wherever he laid his barbut was home.
An archer is more like a sniper...shooting enemies from afar. The last thing id imagine is an archer to just bust out a song and story for a party lol. I always pictured archers as warriors that kill stuff from trees or far away.
A bard loves to entertain, sing and tell stories. They are usually center in the spotlight. Imo the two couldn't be more different lol. I'm still gonna lvl the job and such, it just makes me laugh picturing it haha

I suppose it would also depend on how long bard's buffs last, if they're like they were in XI, then I don't see them having any opportunity to even fire a standard attack. If they're like Corsair's Phantom roll however...Well, they did say that Archers will be capable of burst of damage, which hopefully if designed right would mean that when Bard comes, the buffing will take place when your burst cooldowns are down. So to be effective Barchers, we'll be doing buffs, and our DPS will be coming in the form of burst in between the buffs.
If the burst damage is significant enough, we may not be the top DD, but keep up with the pack, or at least contribute. (As of now, Archer dps is pathetic.)
Thank you for an opinion that was enjoyable to read.An archer is more like a sniper...shooting enemies from afar. The last thing id imagine is an archer to just bust out a song and story for a party lol. I always pictured archers as warriors that kill stuff from trees or far away.

Imagine if at the beginning of the battle for Helm's Deep in the Lord of the Rings movie, just as the seige begins, the Elven archers perform a short musical number for their fellow soldiers. It wouldn't feel right at all. Even Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men didn't sing when they were fighting.
I'm sure they can make it work in the game and it may end up being similar to how the Corsair was in FFXI but it just doesn't feel right for an archer. I know other games have a bow weilding bard and it fits in just fine but they also have a powerful ranged warrior with no vocal talents.
I'm not going to boycott the game for this but I do feel they could have chosen a better class for the bard to be paired with, even if it meant adding the bard at a later time. However, for all we know they could end up changing it later anyway.
I agree, I think part of the problem with buffs is the dev team is justifying shorter buffs with shorter fights.
The problem with that logic is shorter fights actually need longer lasting buffs because thet party is more
mobile. Unlike XI where you simply found a good camp and sat your butt down for 2-6 hours, and buffs could
be done between pulls.
A) its a bow harp, so they're holding a bow with a harp on it.
B) archer had the least amount of responsibility in the game compared to other classes. Sit back, don't pull hate. And some can't even do that!
C) they songs they gave bard are very limited and multipurpose, meaning bard will probably be shooting more arrows than playing songs.
to the argument about long versus short buffs, many people are thinking about leveling, jobs are more so centered around mid to end game, where the fights should be a little longer (even though once you get it down its a 5 min or less fight), if you look at Cnj, it has a protect type spell or maybe just stoneskin not sure, but not a shell type spell, obviously due shell tying into a stat we no longer have. The fact they didn't just slap prot/shell on it immediately means they thought about the way buffs are going to work under this new battle system. People are already applying our old timing standards to it, I'm sure we'll get down to 5 mins for end game again, but normal leveling could be lengthened, or significantly shortened.

TRANSFORMER weapons!!!O__O
I'm lvling archer right now, just because it gets bard as a job x)
But really, it's not like archer can't still be a DD, it just got something else, too.
A) the name "bowharp" is enough to make me roflA) its a bow harp, so they're holding a bow with a harp on it.

C) they songs they gave bard are very limited and multipurpose, meaning bard will probably be shooting more arrows than playing songs.
B) as any other dd class atm
C) at least I hope you're wrong on this one because that would mean brd is a both bad at dd and support xD
To those saying that bard DD will be good because of buffs, it will always be below a dragoon and any other DD class in the game. Why? Because as you buff your miserable pokes you buff the real DD massive slashes and thrusts.
