Interestingly, Scholar touches upon none of this, instead tying itself as the third piece of the War of the Magi puzzle, being the key form of magic employed by Nym while fighting against the Ampadori White Mages and the Mhachi Black Mages.

(Red Magic was the result of post-flood Mages learning to live together and merging the schools. Nym's absence is likely the result of them falling apart from the inside out before that point thanks to the Tonberries, although I don't think we've been given the hard timeline yet on that.)

Faeries operate on completely different rules from Carbuncles or Egi, as well. The only issue is the story behind them varies quite a bit from language to language. English version, at least, notes faeries have a level of individualism, being almost a meta-physical manifestation of the "memories etched in the sould crystal." They even have personal names. Ours is Lily.

Nothing at all mentioned about our personal flavor of aether at all.

However, there are a whole slew of Easter Egg dialogues peppered throughout instances and quests that acknowledge your job if you happen to be equipped with one during these scenes.... but it's just little Easter Eggs that don't fundamentally shift scenes, or anything.

SCH has one in Wanderer's Palace HM, where you meet a job quest NPC that's overjoyed to see you, but he barely acknowledges the rucus if you come as anything but SCH, even with it unlocked and completed.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, all jobs reference world lore or MSQ events in some form.

The only real exceptions being the two, original tank jobs. They don't add too much to the overall world-building and are rather isolated storylines.

Which makes Dark Knight's storyline basically doubling-down on MSQ call backs and heavily characterization on the WoL an huge shift in tone.

Checking back in as I've just completed Heavensward's main story as summoner, and I have to say it feels like it fits so well. Between Dreadwyrm Trance and the 'Caller' job gear (plus long skirt I equipped) and the late events of the story I feel like I've turned into some sort of dragon-goddess.... and I'm not sure what to think of that. It's a little unsettling. I agree that the importance of taking on and being filled with Bahamut's power seems very underplayed in the story - but then there are also hints in the dialogue around the final boss and ending that the WoL's power does seem to becoming something 'beyond human', so it fits that I actually have taken on this specific and terrible power...

Ah, I did spot our NPC friend when I was in there! And went back after the boss was defeated to find him again. But as you say, I wasn't playing as a scholar at the time so he didn't particularly respond.

(Because of the way summoner and scholar level together, I've only been playing as summoner and don't really feel comfortable picking up scholar for actual team play at this high-leveled point - though I'll certainly be playing through the story again, and might try to play arcanist-as-scholar there to get better practice at it.)

Occasionally you do get nods to classes you've leveled even if you're not currently equipped - one of the Amdapor dungeon unlock quests (the one given to you by the conjurer guildmaster) made a lot of mention about me being a white mage, even though I was equipped as summoner at that point.

I'm thinking I'll play dark knight on an alt character eventually, and then if I ever level it on my main character I can just skim through the story if I don't like it.
