Im confused as to why it is a ill-conceived dumpster fire. Not being a prick, genuinely curious as to your opinion on the matter.

Generally speaking that was in reference to the XIV community, but I do have issues with the hunts themselves too:
- Hunts are glorified FATEs with no visual indicator that they're up. Which is to say that it's a game of aggro tag with only a handful being anything more than a zergfest, even with the very first Tomestone set of their expansion.
- S Rank spawn conditions are finicky and obtuse. For what they are, and what they give, the amount of time involved in spawning them is ridiculous. I still help spawn S Ranks when I can be bothered to actually be logged into the game long enough - just helped spawn Nunyunuwi two or three days ago - but... it's not good. I kinda really hate it; hate it more when you factor in community shenanigans.
- A Ranks are hit or miss depending on their zone. We have community-created hunting maps to show hot zones for spawn locations, but the concept of "run/fly around the zone to see if this monster is around" loses its appeal pretty quickly.
- I loathe that the only uncapped source of Tomestone upgrade materials is always tied to hunts. I occasionally do Savage content (I haven't cared enough to be in a static since Midas, however), and I suffer through the 24-man for the weekly drop there, but more than half of the upgrades I get always come from hunts. Would be even more if I were still trying to keep both my tanks and DRG geared up (again, haven't bothered since Midas).

Reading too much of the forums makes me very sad and apathetic.

Well, that post would be a condemnation of hunts and an immense amount of apathy regarding the Savage treadmill/lockout (plus I'm more of a single-player oriented person when it comes to challenge, whereas Savage is something that's entirely team-based challenge). There are still other aspects off the game that I enjoy - new dungeons, new EX Primals, and I'm still somewhat invested in the story.
I have asked myself that question a dozen times in the last year though, and am currently coming off of a two month break (while having done a six month subscription back in October... ouch!). I blame my SO and my friends more than anything lol
Oh speak of the devil. :P

I update Ariyala while my friends and I are out hunting, but we are by no means obligated to touch a 3rd party website. There is no reason to police strangers based on imaginary rules. OP harassed strangers and then went out of their way to continue harassing them... and is somehow surprised that they were banned for "trying to help the community"
^ This sums up my mindset pretty well. If you are not out hunting, you are not entitled to a kill. Period.I've stopped relinking ARR and HW S ranks we've spawned with our little group after we noticed nobody ever helps to spawn (most of the time only us fishing, gathering, killing 150 mobs, doing 1 hour of boring fates etc...), but everyone is 100% READY to whine if they miss the hunt (while being afk of finishing their long 2 star craft or something) and insult in shouts those who did such a great effort to spawn. No relinks = no shouts drama, no hate, no blacklisting us, and we don't really need their help to kill, ARR die in 2 minutes and HW in 7 minutes or faster.
Why we should work for leechers' and haters' tiger mount? We absolutelly shouldn't.

For me anyway, my belief is hunts are the primary reason why SE isn't or will ever release any new form of open world content ever again. Like...I often wonder how many hundreds of reports they have to sit through and read and scrap each day from players citing early pulling. Hunts were a good idea in theory, at least until the community made up its own rules for them which made two sets of players. One that follows the community rules above all else and the others who are just following the rules of the game and how hunts were designed to be by the devs.

I can see why, but on the 2 servers that I have played on (Famfrit and Goblin) most people have been either accommodating to late comers OR understanding if they were late and missed the hunt. My experience is anecdotal and does not apply to all situations/servers, but I have chosen to be on lower populated servers over the course of my MMO career for this very reason. For me anyway, my belief is hunts are the primary reason why SE isn't or will ever release any new form of open world content ever again. Furthermore, people are forgetting that the purpose of open world content is to reward those playing in the open world. Chillin in Ul'Dah or Limsa while waiting for other people in a hunt LS to call out locations is not participating in open world content. Sure, its beneficial for everyone but its totally bogus to then complain that other people should reward "hunters" and alert them for the hunt. Then... people complain that Ariyala is inaccurate. Guaranteed 90% of the people that complain about this are probably chillin in limsa right now, doing no work whatsoever to actually, you know, hunt.

Yeppppp. Granted I am on a larger server and due to that I've seen both sides of the fence. Many times I've been just minding my own business doing quests and seen hunts both go off without a hitch or complaint. As well as times when zone chat get lite up with screaming matches.
I'm willing to believe too a majority of the screamers are the ones waiting for others to do the work for them. Just due to past experiences in a DF PUG dungeon where party members would drop during the dungeon saying "Gotta go! S-Rank announced!"
