Defending? I defend nothing. Do I think it's nice for them to do what they did? No. But I understand why ,and expecting a COMPANY to do nice things is setting yourself up for disappointment. Understanding the motivation behind the decisions they make will assist you in presenting a compelling case for implementing the things you want. If you think the cash shop is EVER going away, you don't understand how attractive it is to the company nor how many of the users are willing to use it without hesitation.

Everyone understands why they do it, nobody here is under the impression that companies exist for any reason other than making money. You chastise others for being less than pleased about the idea of paying extra for re-skinned old content, then you say you disagree with it but "understand why they do it", and you make the assumption that others don't understand profit as a motivation.

Simply understanding why companies love the MTX business model isn't a valid defense of it, and you're foolish to assume people who oppose it "don't understand".

I could make snide comments about how it's sad you can't afford to play games.... but I was that person a while ago. Now I have cash to pay for things so my perspective has shifted. I am pretty sure I'd have ranted the same as you about 10 years ago.

Pretty piss-poor as far as arguments go, and it makes you sound like a kid with his mummy's credit card. The microtransactions in FF are pretty good by genre standards, but it's genuinely sad that you'd be happy to see them expanded to re-skins of three-year-old content. Just because you're willing to spend your (or your parents') money on the ever-expanding list of cash shop content doesn't mean everyone else is keen for the game to go down that path, and it isn't because they don't understand profit as a motive for corporate decisions.

I'm suggesting there are better approaches to get what you want then calling a company greedy and asking for them to forgo profit because it'd be nice or "right". I'm not defending it, I love free stuff as much as the next person. It doesn't need defense, it just is. It's how things are and unless the company can be convinced it's in their best interest to change, it will always be.
If people understood it as well as you imply they'd not post half the threads I see on these forums.
Make an argument for them NOT to do what they're doing that doesn't involve morals.

You know what? that was a shitty thing to do. I'll apologize for that. I don't know you or your money situation. It's very possible you just value different things than I do. I'm not rich, I just have some pocket cash to blow on games.. mostly because I don't go out much.
It's not that it's a possibility though, it's where it's going. This is what, for better or for worse the gaming world has become. Our game is one of the better examples but I'm realistic about the direction it's going.
