I don't think one specific anecdotal example is enough to enough to disprove the whole "most likely better understanding" claimLIES!!! A former FC member is living proof this is not always the case.

Actually I think it is, given RC runs still fail, even old WoD runs and old dungeon runs. People have done all of the content before synced/unsynced and can still fail. Knowing the fight doesnt mean youll be better. Knowing the fight doesnt mean you'll remember mechanics. Synced Unsynced it really doesnt matter. Some people just can't be taught. I've run into quite a few, I just used ONE for an example. But I could write pages on how people fight and go into dungeons and the like.
Synced doesnt mean you know anything more than the person who Unsynced it, esp considering most mechanics in old content, are always recycled in new.
XP mostly safe. Until you meet that one guy that proves you wrong with a stack aoe that shouldn't be there... (RC fun as always)
"Within each of us, the potential for great power waits to be released."
Are you suggesting if I took two theoretical players, both starting the game rn, and have one run every piece of content up to current stuff synced and the other do it all unsynced, that there would be zero appreciable difference in their skill level or their ability to clear the new content?

No, I do not think so. Mechanics are good, but its reliant as well on a players natural skill and willingness not just to learn what theyre running but learn their class as well. Since everyone is different to start with. No. I ran everything synced, and my friends who started later unsynced, and theyre just as good as I am since they learn fast, and learn well. I'm running currently with someone who just started just before stormblood. They run great with the new content. Are you suggesting if I took two theoretical players, both starting the game rn, and have one run every piece of content up to current stuff synced and the other do it all unsynced, that there would be zero appreciable difference in their skill level or their ability to clear the new content?
"Within each of us, the potential for great power waits to be released."
You are avoiding the point of my question so ill rephrase it.
If I take two identical theoretical players, have one run all the content synced and one run all the content unsynced, do you believe they will be of an equal skill level at the end of such a test?
But the feeling that somehow unsynch made the people worse or is the reason for all those bad players cant also be truly proven. At least not until we have the exact data with numbers that show us that the amount of bad players increased drastically after the introduction of that feature. I mean I am not saying that this might not be good for some players and the way they play but at the same time not everyone that does it unsynch the first time is bad. We simply dont know.
In the end this gives new people the chance to at least do that content once, without having to wait forever. This way people will not need to buy a jump potion to get beyond the content.
You could only do this if they have the exact kind of skill. Maybe the one that unsynch it, is already a bad player and would not have been better with synch. Maybe the one that will synch everything runs the stuff with friends that carry them through. I mean in my old FC we had some people that did stuff synch and yet they were horrible players who only got through it because the rest of us tried their best. Are you suggesting if I took two theoretical players, both starting the game rn, and have one run every piece of content up to current stuff synced and the other do it all unsynced, that there would be zero appreciable difference in their skill level or their ability to clear the new content?
This argument is something that I probably like to see with jump potion but in the end even if someone still unsynchs everything, if they take their time to learn their job they will not be much worse. But if you have a bad player who does not want to get better, nothing much will change that.
I am not saying that unsych might not make it worse for some. But I dont believe that this is one of the main reason for the skill level of the player base. I find things like jump potions way bigger problems and even there you will have different kind of players.
