I prefer X/Y not letter/number.

(X,Y) should be simple and obvious but sometimes it's easy to reverse numbers without even trying. Even reading numbers I sometimes, inadvertently, switch 'em.
(Letter, Number) removes any ambiguity and even if transposed can still be read properly. It just makes it harder to screw up map locations.
Quite frankly, I'm fine with either method. Then again, I'm easy to please.
the current X & Y system is kinda crappy.
If its not you who isnt wrong then it could be the other person not knowing how to read the map. Its not bad in itself but why they make a simple map with X Y where there is more room for margin of error ;o

I'm going with murugan here, we have all to take algebra in our lives, if you didn't i'm sorry and I wonder how you get by. X is always horizontal, Y is always vertical, this transcends languages, if aliens came to our planet they might even get it. To not remember the (x,y) format means someone needs to go back and review basic algebra and hardcore hit the "line" section. I have never came across a person who was confused by this, I'm actually worried about the people who do mess it up.

I haven't used x, y coordinates for my real life use for ages. I don't have a major that uses it on a day to day basis nor have any need for it in practical terms. I don't know about you, but when I tell someone to meet me somewhere IRL, I don't give them freakin' x, y coordinates, I tell them to meet me at a location using words to describe it (in front of the name brand store, next to the parking lot, etc). What a wonderful opportunity for the game to teach them something that also translates into real life. Learning the universal system for reading coordinates. This will save them potential embarrassment in public of having to have it explained to them.
This game should be more educational I think. Like the new Pakistani Sesame Street, only for MMORPG players.
I think the x, y system is fine, but I also understand why it can be a pain in the ass, as I often find myself doing double takes when someone gives me coordinates, especially because coordinates are used maybe once or so per week.
The best way to fix it is to simply label the damn coordinates on the map and in game so that there is absolutely zero doubt. That should keep the OP happy.
Edit: Oh good, they are. Thanks Felis. And I still prefer my definition of B2P.![]()

How is D-6 superior to X:6 Y:5? Is it because there is to much to type? So you would prefer smaller zone maps just so you have to type less?
Honestly people ask for cookies and just because the cookies arnt cut into star shapes they complain...
It's because people just want to have it and fly like a G-6.
I don't see it as superior just more resilient to silly human error like reversing coordinates. Regardless, both ways get the job done and the current way isn't broken in any way whatsoever.
Not to mention all the mild dyslexics out there.
Its funny how some people want to state how simple it is. We who grasp it understand how simple it is. There are alot of simple things in the world. That does not change the fact that people make mistakes, get confussed, or as I mentioned, have dyslexia, or just a dyslexic moment in there day.
Alot of people learned alot of things in 3rd grade. If they haven't used since, it is likely that they wil not recall, or recall incorrectly.
