If you don't understand that it is XY and always has been and completely puzzles you, then you are a complete retard and should not be playing these kind of games because they require some form of primary school education along with common sense.

You're just being a prick to be a prick.
people are still complaining about this? Seriously? 5th grade? Thats being nice more like 3rd or 4th.. its a standard coordinate plane what are video games going to have to start doing? teaching basic math? I mean theres definitely an age limit on this game for a reason, and i'm pretty sure 99% of people haven't dropped out before 5th grade. It's pretty standard. It's not broken. Why fix it? I mean really this is annoying seeing this multiple times. -rant rant rant-

Reguardless, everytime someone says meet me at (3, 9) I have to verify which is which with them, because even is you are I are familiar with the system, it doesn't mean they are.
the way I remember this is you have to run to put the ladder before you climb it >_>

There are many things that need to be fixed. The coordinate system on the maps is not one of them.

In FFXIV, some one, no doubt your star game designer, decided in that it made more sense to use a new system. X=Number, Y=Number.

Now if this wasn't enough, someone else (or maybe the same someone) decided to make maps absurdly large. So its not uncommon to see something like (23,42) and (42,23) on the same map. But which is X and which is Y? Yeah that's the tricky part isn't it.

Now I know what you are thinking.. One in the hand is better than two in the bush.
Its that kind of thought that got us to where we are today. How is it possible that you took a simple coordinate system that is mindlessly easy to understand (LETTER-NUMBER) and turned it into something that is confusing and founded in anti-logic?

Please see my ASCII map below illustrating what needs to happen.

Next time when Yoshi-P says meet me at (D,5) I'll know exactly where that is and we can go make a go at having some fun.

This is my challenge to you. It does not require a new server infrastructure to do this.

its the small things that kill me inside.
    Couldn't agree more with this.

At school I was always taught "along the corridor and up the stairs" seriously anyone with half a brain cell knows this, every time you use graphs in science or maths x and y stay the same, also on graphs and anything else that might use the same type of system (I think graphs and maps are the only ones though)

If simple coordinates baffle people then they surely cant play this game.

Oh so sorry sir, my music major brain cannot comprehend the almighty "along the corridor and up the stairs" so well, please help me. You are right it shouldn't be hard for someone to read these maps, but the fact is they are overly large with absolutely no zoom feature. To say that the numbers are better in this situation is laughable, and for you to talk about math as if it never uses letters in graphs is even more silly.

The size of the numbers are no problem.. they are fine.. infact its one of the first things I notice when I open the map.. The size is fine.. the numbers ? Fine.. letters in a graph? yes and what he meant by x and y stay the same is that x always comes before y... its very simple, and the concept of it never changes... In an acceleration graph its velocity / time .. time always being the x .. rise over run, always.. if you dropped out before elementary school all I can say is WDF.

I'm not stroking my e-peen i'm just saying, system is easy, and the guy has a point, very simple one at that.

PS. IF by chance they did change to numbers and letters if these people cant decipher two DIFFERENT numbers from each-other then chances are they will read letters/numbers backwards too.. O and god forbid when its (2,2) IDK what comes first eh? just bend me over, screw me side ways i've been mind fucked.

I'm well aware of how it works, and which comes first, but that dosen't mean everyone is. There is no use in changing the current maps imo, but there isn't any reason why this can't be introduced with 2.0. Then again, I remember people not being able to follow letters and numbers in XI so basically.... what the hell ever...
