PVP - with people who love camping spawn points and fates just to be jerks - breeds a toxic community with people being resentful of each other. Overwatch is proof that it breeds a toxic community. I love FF14 because it avoids that.
I have to step in on this one:

How would fates and beast tribes in a Open PvP area generate any kind of elitism? With that logic, I could say anyone who did Sylph quests or Sahagin ones are all elitists because I never did. I can do them, and nothing is stopping me from doing them, but I just don't. I choose not to, rather I haven't chosen to actually make an effort to do them yet.

If they wall off an entire new area and say "This is an open PvP area, here are the rules, enter at your own risk", then it's purely optional to go there. There's nothing elitist one bit about that, nor would there be any pressure at all. If you have reason to go in, you know the rules, you know the risks. It's all on you.

And Overwatch, as a competitive game, is NOT at fault for players who can't behave themselves. They've even taken a stronger approach to dealing with that lately, but the game and Blizzard themselves are at no fault for nasty players. There's plenty of competitive games out there, and while the common misconception is that the communities around them are toxic, this is quite false, even here in XIV. This game has plenty of nasty players too, and with PvP being such a minority appeal here, one could say the larger majority of "toxic" players actually exist more in PvE. I won't say that PvPers are all innocent, exemplary players, but many of us (speaking only for Aether at least) maintain a competitive spirit, yes, but a respect for each other AS fellow competitors beyond that. You can't simply make a blanket statement that competitive games breed a toxic community, Overwatch or XIV besides.

I like the idea of having optional open-world pvp content. It shouldn't gate anything pve related, but it would definitely be a welcome change of pace with pvp content.

Because I love this game and the PvP in this game? Final Fantasy XIV is my favorite game, why shouldn't I be able to ask for/suggest something that I think would be fun for me in this game? Like I said, PvP doesn't always have to be toxic. If anything, SE could introduce an item that makes you immune for targeting for 30 minutes or something if it comes to that.

And as ThirdChild state, I've probably come across more toxic players on the PvE side of things. The PvP community try to encourage each other to learn and have fun, the recent Elemental tournament is proof of that.

No thx. I've played BDO and owpvp is not fun. If you want pvp, go play League of Legends or Overwatch. One of the main reasons I play this game is because there is no owpvp.

The OP clearly asked for an open world zone. So all the rest of your MMO doesn't have to be affected by PvP at all. Disregard the fact that PvP already is a part of your MMO, has areas that are relevant to the lore, and one of the most enjoyed parts of Stormblood's story was based on a PvP mode that's existed for over 2 years in your MMO.

Now then, take your same statement from before and replace "owpvp" with something you really love about the game and tell me if that doesn't sound really selfish?

    Thank you Lace.

It's weird that people who respond are mostly those who are against PvP overall, while I made the topic to hear fellow PvPers thoughts on it xD

I don't even like Overwatch or League of Legends, so I don't understand people who keep using that as an argument. It's like saying to the ones who want more housing features to go play the Sims instead.

While I can understand the hesitation others might have toward any changes toward a bigger PvP presence in game, no one's looking to completely reinvent FFXIV into something it isn't. We PvPers are just trying to get SOMETHING in terms of content designed for us that we can enjoy. Especially in the wake of sweeping 4.0 changes bringing in people who wouldn't otherwise touch PvP if not to reap rewards from it, then return to shunning and avoiding it besides.

    1. Rival Wings is a 1v1 factions mode.
    2. No. That just promotes bullying.
    3. Double no.
    4. Why even? Just leave if you don't want to be attacked.
    5. That seems wholly unneeded.
    6. Seriously no, we don't need FATEs in PvP.
    7. You don't seem to understand what Beast Tribes are to suggest that.
    8. "Bully them for more bonuses."
    9. Why even. Just. Stop. We have an arena, we have ways of making in-game tournaments, what even is a PvP "mini-game"?
10 and 11. "Let's all just join one faction and bully anyone who's foolish enough to join the other side." ala Cerulean Order and Crimson Legion in Blade n Soul.

Open World PvP is almost always a one-sided bullying fest. And none of these ideas would make it better.

I would love a PvP zone. A lot of people here seem to not understand that like a lot of content in this game, it would be optional. If it's not your cup of tea, that's fine. And chime in, your voice is important. But don't bash on the idea, it's sufficient to say that it's not something you would enjoy or participate in.

But I think a PvP zone could be implemented in a way that can offer both serious and casual rewards, and act as a casual stepping stone to invite some FC friends who would be less comfortable "queuing" for PvP. A great idea with a lot of promise, if done correctly.

My apologies, I'm coming from the stand point that this will bring new ideas to the table and give us all something new to play with. OP and the others are trying to be constructive here so let me just ask outright to those against it to explain their points in detail. Why are you all so attached to the idea that open world pvp is bullying? is elitism? is something that a majority of the players in this game do not want?

From experience, Guild wars 2 world vs world was something I was quite fond of and if we can replicate that to a degree here then it would be interesting. There are games that do open world pvp badly but if those are bad examples, couldn't FF14 just use those as stepping stones to come up with something better? And at the end of the day we're just giving ideas here.
