I don't mind the Viera, but I eventually also want a race that's not too human or super cutesy looking. I'd just love fighting alongside a beast like Kimahri.

That, i see as the problem, and the most realistic outcome the would happen if more beast like races are introduced (even if that's not how you meant it). Most would only like to fight along side them. Not play as them, and why would you? Less if not non-existent facial animations, during many cut scenes this can actively make certain story elements seem absurd due to the interactions being done with characters who have frozen faces, unable to match the expression needed to convey emotions.
Look at this, tell me you believe this love story.

True SE would do a better job, and yes such bonds can and do exist. However for the amount of players that would actually play as a more bestial race, some could very easily argue the the development time could and should be spent elsewhere.
Yes Viera are another waifu race, i do understand that, however they fit the setting of this game. i, in my opinion do not feel this does.

Personally i have always wanted to play as a type of Were Boar as i'm fairly certain no one else would (though i admit freely that i could be wrong)
.
The most beast like i can see SE/ FF going as far as playable races would be that of which was introduced in Bless Online's Pantera/ Lupus race

For a playable race it just makes more sense to add concepts that better complement one another rather that diametrically oppose one another, hence the opinion that Viera should be would be a natural fit. It's what by and far the player base prefers , if race polls are any indication.
Honestly, the one single reason I'd prefer to fight alongside them, instead of actually playing them, is that I simply wouldn't find the time to play an alt character. I grew really attached to my character, wouldn't dare to Fantasia him, and the amount of time I put into this character, I simply can't see myself put into another character. I don't know how people do it. ='D

There are Phial of Fantasia, no need to play an alt for the much asked for and wanted race.Honestly, the one single reason I'd prefer to fight alongside them, instead of actually playing them, is that I simply wouldn't find the time to play an alt character. Yes, I know.

Oh yeah, wouldn't want to lose the impact of our smile/nod every single cutscene. That would be terrible. Oh wait, I forgot the ever important angry face/nod combo as well.

Why do they have to have non-existent facial animations? They could totally smile or frown or look confused. And if they hair ears like the Lupin, their ears would add to the emotion.

Face doesn't look anything like the other races, so they'd have more work... Armors would also be ugly, if not redesigned... Basically, the devs might have to completely redesign 80+% of the armors, and maybe even some mounts...
Still, Alacran, you got me talking about were-boar. Now, I'm on my way to find a group for some D&D5.

All of the different races have unique animations, so I don't think that would be a big deal. Just the facial animations. The Lupin are also bipedal and have humanoid feet (if you look at their model they are wearing perfectly normal sollerets) and most gloves would work with their hands. The only issue would be the headpiece and maybe the body, since Lupin have a lot of floof. However there are unique headpieces for Miqo'te too to accommodate their ears, so I don't think it would be too hard.
The neck floof would be a problem, but I think it's big enough to not clip with a lot of armor. Plus they could make the amount of floof something you can change in character creation, like hairstyles.

When i began this game in 1.0 i played as a Roe Hellsgard male. I loved to lore behind them, and really enjoyed not being the typical anime youth hero. He was mature looking, tough and looked like he could handle the world he was stepping in to. The issue i had was at the time many textures seemed to be stretched over his frame, over time this i could less and less ignore it. Once 2.0 began i switched to my current him to my current character a Highlander.
I say all this to make sure it is understood that i have no real issues with more bestial races in general, however i truly do not feel they belong in this game as playable races, not just because of technical limitations but also due to hoe much of this game is so heavily focused in it's narrative.
Being completely biased, i can say i have yet to find another mmo with such a focus and the idea of the development team pouring resources in to "something cool to see that i would never use" seems not only wasteful, but necessary.
Time and again the team has shown us what they feel is their player base, the mog station it's self is evidence of this. People claim they want ferocious races, then go buy pretty new dresses for their cat girls... Population numbers don't lie, even if we do to ourselves. Very obviously the very vocal minority too easily forget the scene a Knights Calling, a moment when our characters shows a measure of emotion i feel can not be done a Lupin face or any for that matter that has a snout, beak, tentacles, or what ever the hell that thing is...
A smile better suits a hero indeed. There are other games out there that cater to these environments, ever has Final Fantasy had specific look, why come to FF if your looking for something not part of this game direction?
