You're overestimating how much gil is added to the game at any given point. It is hard to farm gil on FFXIV and no, crafting doesn't count as farming gil. Farming gil is anything that makes the game create more gil. So gathering also only counts if people sell directly to vendors. There are very few ways to have the game create gil and they all either give low amounts (killing mobs), have a hard cut off (leves), or involve doing content with others (FATES and Instanced content).

No but it has affected greatly affected the game economy. This alone is enough of an argument against it.

SE can and should come up with other and better gil sinks than this.

The game economy in WoW was affected because it's ridiculously easy to make gold there by killing mobs. The game itself has many more avenues of gold creation than FFXIV has for gil creation.

Hmm I wouldn't agree with you there. They may have more types of quests that generate gold, but the gold generated from their crafting and gathering can't compare to the amount of gil it generates in FF.

Crafting and gathering don't generate gil unless the items made or found are sold to a vendor. The market board does not generate gil.
