Personal investment, both in the setting and the hypothesis of the two settings being connected. In the case of Ivalice, it's exacerbated by the veritable glut of references to both it and Matsuno's other works (Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre) already in-game.

Just like Jenomis, it's... basically just an obsession with Ivalice.

    Changes I've observed post-MSQ completion:

    • Of course, the Doman Enclave has been updated. I don't have confirmation, but it seems likely to me that this is based on MSQ progression, and people who haven't done 4.1 yet still see the old version. Various NPC dialogue has changed there.
    • The Saltery is now populated by some NPCs. Watt and Wiscard can be spoken to, and others have speech bubbles.
    • The NPCs at the Rising Stones have some new dialogue. Nothing new at the Waking Sands.
    • Lyse and M'naago have new dialogue of course, and Alphinaud and Alisaie are still in the infirmary. Krile doesn't seem to be available to talk to anywhere at the moment. Arenvald, V'mah and J'moldva have new stuff to say.
    • Tibost, the angry Ala Mhigan who Raubahn had to calm down with a speech, and who later appeared as the envoy of the Ala Mhigan Quarter at Lyse's summit, can be talked to outside the entrance to the Royal Palace Gardens.
    • Speaking of which, the door to exit the Palace Gardens still has the Garlean emblem on it. Guess they haven't got around to taking them down yet...
    • Raganfrid in Ala Gannha has new dialogue...
    • ... as do M'rahz Nunh and Sarisha, the broodmother of the Vira. No sign of J'dyalani in Ala Ghiri, nor of any friendly chatty Qiqirn.
    • No mentions of the latest developments regarding Raubahn and Nanamo, either from Commander Swift or from Jenlyns or Bartholomew.
    • EDITED: Hancock and Tataru have some comments at the Ruby Bazaar.

That's all I've turned up so far, any others?

And notable dialogue flags in the MSQ:

When speaking to Bartholomew at the Royal Promenade, he mentioned my completion of the level 70 PLD quest, and Nanamo herself made reference to my involvement in the GSM 60-70 quests about the goldsmithing school.

That would be the apparent reason. Gosetsu probably felt it was no longer appropriate to call her Yotsuyu, given how different she had become.

I don't have access to a Japanese client, so I don't know if Yotsuyu's name was written in kanji or hiragana (as is usually the case). My best guess of her name in kanji would be 夜露 ("evening dew"). Dropping the "yo", or 夜, from her name, would leave only , which means "dew" and, in this case, is also a synonym for "tears".

It seems appropriate, to me, for her to be reduced to tears. That was literally the last thing she was doing, as the roof came down on her world.

And then we have the alliance still punishing the scientist that also lost his memory but was still held accountable for his past actions. It is really a big moral question but at the same time what would happen if she somehow got part or the complete memory back and suddenly is a danger to all again? Hien still tried to kill her after knowing her story so I am not really sure if he will be like Lyse, especially since Yotsuyu did some even worse things than Fordola and on top of that enjoyed it. I am just not sure if he would take the risk of her getting it back or maybe even faking it but we will see.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

That is kind of sad. I've said that FF XII is my favourite setting in the entire main series (but not my favourite FF overall; that's X/X-2, for having better character arcs) but... I can't comprehend looking at the amazingly rich history and setting of Hydaelyn's various civilisations, and trying to insist that they're all to be replaced by Ivalice.

I'm also very fond of Ivalice as a setting. Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy XII and Vagrant Story have consistently remained three of my favourite games and the only RPG I consider equal to them in recent years is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I'm all for various references to Ivalice in FFXIV. Though I don't want FFXIV to become Ivalice.

Unfortunately a lot of 'Ivalice' fans are only pushing for Ivalice to be given more focus due to their obsession with Viera...which were never a particularly major part of Ivalice in the first place, nor are they what caused Ivalice to be so highly praised over the years.

Did anyone else catch that Marcechamp, the elezen from Tailfeather, is the one chasing the Sultina during her echo?

I think they're two different characters who happen to have the same name. It's happened before. Tailfeather Marcechamp's lorebook entry says nothing about a past job in the sultana's employ.

Grinnaux is a Heavensward knight, but back in 1.0, in 1562, there was an apparently identical NPC also named Grinnaux, serving as a Gods' Quiver in the Black Shroud. Either a strange case of asset reuse, or some ridiculous deep-cover plot that nobody will ever elaborate on.

I don't know how to hide stuff, sorry in advance. Also I never played Revenant Wings, or the Tactics remake for PSP, if it matters. But between Tactics and 12 I noticed that in Tactics there is no summon for the Taurus stone that we see in 14's Rabanastre or at least we don't see anyone use it to summon a Lucavi, although I THINK that's the one that raises Malak in chapter 3. In 12, it corresponds to the esper Chaos. So that would insinuate a lot about the boss of the raid in 14, and fill in some holes that are now about 20 years old, by implication at least. Also, while said boss does not initially look like Chaos, with no wheel and the like, he does have the 4 swords, and a similar theme in appearance. Given how closely they're tying the lore of the ascians to 12, and 12 to Tactics, I am interested to see what, if anything comes from all this. But I do think its neat to imagine that if someone has used Taurus for evil in Tactics, this guy is what would have popped out. It might not be interesting to anyone else, but it is to me. I'm also interested to see if these stones end up being tied to the ascians in some way. Just in case, the Taurus ascian would be Mitron. They've already linked the light masks of the existing ones to the emblems of certain espers in 12 so its not out of the question. Gonna keep my eyes open. ^_^
