Positivity about housing!

My boyfriend exhausted himself staying up all night on a work night, planning and mapping out routes and suffering horrible anxiety the whole time, and barely managed to get something while hundreds of others weren't able to.

It's awesome we actually managed to get one, but what kind of horrible system in what is supposed to be a fun video game encourages this type of thing?

This x100. I have terrible anxiety but am usually able to control it. This housing business ate at me. I haven't slept well in days. Video games shouldn't cause that. Buying a house in a video game...definitely not. I feel for your boyfriend, I honestly do. I hope we are both able to relax soon.

Yeah, I had nightmares about housing all night because getting a bigger house for my FC was all on me since I had the money we saved up on my character. I woke up to my friend telling me about the launcher issues. We just barely managed to get a medium in Shirogane in the least desirable location (the medium facing the small plot near the northeastern subdivision aetheryte). Honestly, the whole ordeal burnt me out from housing. Now that a week has passed I feel a bit better about it. I like our location, overall. Was just disappointed that all our hard work didn't end up meaning much (although, it wasn't surprising that things played out the way they did).

Exactly this. "Staying up all night", "cancelling work", "suffering horrible anxiety", "depression" are not traits or emotions that any company much less a gaming company should be striving to elicit from its fanbase/population. Yes, you can argue that it's everyone's choice to do something like canceling work or skipping school but they could also implement a housing system in many different ways that doesn't require people having to feel the need to go to such extremes.

...yet, these are the emotions I'm seeing across the FFXIV player base. We are paying for this "enjoyment" after all, housing is relatively major content for this particular game, there's a lot you can do with it, and 90% of the user base shouldn't be excluded from it because of login ques and complete random chance. Terrible design, planning, implementation/execution on SE's part. Shame on you, company. No more excuses. Fix your design ideology. It's still about 2 decades behind well researched norms for how you should design "housing" in an MMO setting. That's just sad. I'm sad.

While the devs can certainly work on the housing, I severely doubt the devs are looking to personally hurt people with the housing system. People need to chill and take care of themselves and their mental health not some game company.

It is absolutely ridiculous to hype yourself up like that and set yourself up for disappointment and then feel like a company personally hurt you. Yeesh.
