Positivity about housing!

My boyfriend exhausted himself staying up all night on a work night, planning and mapping out routes and suffering horrible anxiety the whole time, and barely managed to get something while hundreds of others weren't able to.

It's awesome we actually managed to get one, but what kind of horrible system in what is supposed to be a fun video game encourages this type of thing?

This x100. I have terrible anxiety but am usually able to control it. This housing business ate at me. I haven't slept well in days. Video games shouldn't cause that. Buying a house in a video game...definitely not. I feel for your boyfriend, I honestly do. I hope we are both able to relax soon.

Yeah, I had nightmares about housing all night because getting a bigger house for my FC was all on me since I had the money we saved up on my character. I woke up to my friend telling me about the launcher issues. We just barely managed to get a medium in Shirogane in the least desirable location (the medium facing the small plot near the northeastern subdivision aetheryte). Honestly, the whole ordeal burnt me out from housing. Now that a week has passed I feel a bit better about it. I like our location, overall. Was just disappointed that all our hard work didn't end up meaning much (although, it wasn't surprising that things played out the way they did).

Exactly this. "Staying up all night", "cancelling work", "suffering horrible anxiety", "depression" are not traits or emotions that any company much less a gaming company should be striving to elicit from its fanbase/population. Yes, you can argue that it's everyone's choice to do something like canceling work or skipping school but they could also implement a housing system in many different ways that doesn't require people having to feel the need to go to such extremes.

...yet, these are the emotions I'm seeing across the FFXIV player base. We are paying for this "enjoyment" after all, housing is relatively major content for this particular game, there's a lot you can do with it, and 90% of the user base shouldn't be excluded from it because of login ques and complete random chance. Terrible design, planning, implementation/execution on SE's part. Shame on you, company. No more excuses. Fix your design ideology. It's still about 2 decades behind well researched norms for how you should design "housing" in an MMO setting. That's just sad. I'm sad.

While the devs can certainly work on the housing, I severely doubt the devs are looking to personally hurt people with the housing system. People need to chill and take care of themselves and their mental health not some game company.

It is absolutely ridiculous to hype yourself up like that and set yourself up for disappointment and then feel like a company personally hurt you. Yeesh.

I log in right at the "time" the maintenance was done. I sit there painfully watching the intro, and hit start. Disaster strikes! My server has a queue! I am 15th in line. I'm there thinking... omg... it IS today, this will never move... omg... omg.. omg... I lost it. I tab out to tell my hubby I am screwed, and when I tab back BANG! Its loading!

"I STILL HAVE A CHANCE!"

But then, things start every zoomed in, I've had this issue before and before I had to log out and log in to fix it. "SCREW ME!" I think, while waiting, praying that the world will load correctly.

And then! IT DOES! I choose the ward I preselected so that the address is my birthday, another loading screen. I had noticed that all the plots were still empty in this specific ward, but still could be lag, server issues...

I log in and turns out I am one of maybe 4 people running around in the ward! I got my house super happy, I've been stockpiling random stuff and gil for months and spent most of it. Love it!

Biggest reason I'll never feel positivity towards the housing system is because it's so limited that SE can't really expand upon the features of it without causing stupid backlash. Aside from new furnishings I don't think houses have got an actual feature added since exploratory missions, which were only for FCs.

I just want housing to be readily available to everyone so it can actually get some gameplay updates.

I agree with you guys that there are problems here but let's keep the positive stories coming! With all the negativity in this thread going, I just want there to be atleast one thread to focus on the positive .

How deep in the sand is your head buried? This is a zero-sum game, there's no 'positivity' here that won't be actually bragging. Your gain came at the expanse of someone else. This isn't some static group that cleared Shinryu Ex through hard effort and cooperation and everyone else has the potential to achieve the same goal if they want, this is literally you being luckier than other people and now expect these same people to be happy for you (alternatively, stay out of your thread, which they don't have to do as this is a public forum). Yeah, there's room for positivity, I for one enjoy a lot of things added in this patch, but this thread is pure, unbridled bragging and very, very poorly timed at that. This is Marie Antoinette levels of not reading the room.

So, basically you want everyone who didn't get a house to simply congratulate you on getting a house (which is the positivity you're posting about) or have others tell a story about how they got a house (which in turn ensures that other people who wanted a house could not get a house)?
Yeah.. that's real positive.

I'm not going to tell you that you're bragging post is "too soon" after the debacle; You got a house and others didn't. Hurray? But really, just be honest with your post instead of trying to hide behind saying this is positivity.
