Nobody in here is saying to rush the MSQ to completion, but this game is structured so that crafting/gathering is secondary, and the story comes first.

It's not the biggest reward of the game, but it's certainly the biggest reward of crafting. It's the reason that games include crafting and gathering as part of the game, so that those players who like the idea of making their own equipment and provisions get opportunities to do so.No, it's not the biggest reward. Crafting and gathering is always secondary to main scenario. It's been time and time again recommended you do the MSQ first before you decided to gather or craft. If you have to have already passed the content where you'd want the gear before you can gather/make it, then what's the point of ever making it at all? Sure, lots of players go back later to progress crafting and gathering just for the heck of it, but the biggest incentive and reward for doing so is already moot.
The MSQ provides gear because not everyone is interested in the crafting side of the game. Many players are never going to craft anything, yet they still need to be able to complete all the other content. Just because there's an alternative to crafting your gear for those who don't want to doesn't justify blocking those who do want to craft their equipment from doing so.
No it's not. Everyone plays it differently. To say it's the biggest reward is a an outright lie. It's simply important in your opinion. It's not the biggest reward of the game, but it's certainly the biggest reward of crafting. It's the reason that games include crafting and gathering as part of the game, so that those players who like the idea of making their own equipment and provisions get opportunities to do so.
To prove that, what does that say about Culinarian, which is in fact a crafter. It's an important crafter just like any other. I cannot craft gear with a Culinarian. Maybe one day SE will let us craft a banana hammock as a culinarian...but...not right now![]()
It is a combat game with crafting and gathering as a side. That\\'s what it is, if you enjoy crafting and gathering so much, go play a simulator or another game that prioritises it. I have all my crafters to 70, one gatherer to 70, and other 2 to 65+, so I\\'m not just talking out my ears. I understand the will to want to get on and just do that kind of thing, but the story is good and it\\'s not hard to go through to unlock the EXTRA stuff. You get gear from the main story quest to help your first through and at that point, it is all unlocked for you to gather and craft for your others jobs. You and the OP don\\'t even seem to like to craft or gather because your logic is incomplete...
If your biggest reward is leveling content, then you don\\\\'t know much about crafting. I enjoy it because it\\\\'s fun, but it also provides money, glamor, FC airship, making bardings and items from end game primal drops, and new level 70 crafted combat gear that can be melded and used for end game raiding, so no, being able to make leveling gear is so far down the list of prizes from leveling crafters / gatherers, it\\\\'s not even funny. If you worry that finishing main story will make the whole game unfun, then you don\\\\'t like gatherering and crafting because you would want to get on and do it for fun or money or end game stuff afterwards. This has to be a joke or troll thread.
What does it say? Exactly what I said aleady:It's the reason that games include crafting and gathering as part of the game, so that those players who like the idea of making their own equipment and provisions get opportunities to do so.
If crafted item X is most useful for activity Y, then you should be able to craft it in time to have it for Y. Whether Y happens to be leveling or not is completely beside the point. Would you enjoy making your glamour items as much if you had to have already gotten and glamoured every piece of gear before you could get the recipe for it? Would you enjoy making materials for an airship as much if you needed to already have a fully maxed out airship before you could make any of them? Whatever is craftable should be craftable by the time it's useful, no matter what use that happens to be. Preventing that is bad design.
What exact point are you trying to make? Is posting a complaint I have somehow an insult to me? Is this some kind of weird witty insult you're trying to make to feed your own ego? I don't even wanna start on how much of a waste of space your comment is.
On topic, MSQ doesn't take that long and you're gonna have to chew through it.
However, I do agree that you should be able to craft gear that's atleast the same as the current level of MSQ. Let's say your quest is 68, you should be able to be in an area where you can gather materials to craft a 68 piece of gear.
Being self sufficient in that way was possible in ARR, and not so much in HW considering areas got gated. You could still craft relevant gear and gather the stuff yourself in HW though (as far as I know) but in Stormblood it doesn't seem to be the case. Sure, you can buy the materials but that completely diminishes the point of self sufficiency.
Again like I stated before, you're going to have to suck it up when it comes to MSQ but I agree with that the stuff you want to make at a lower level shouldn't be gated behind a 70 quest unlock.
Someone also mentioned that HQ rewards are a thing, but that's limited. First and foremost it's one piece per quest, leaving the other classes in the dust and having you pick one War and Magic class. Second, the gear sometimes is below your level because you may be higher than the level of the MSQ gear.

The only reason it was sort of in ARR, was due to the odd gear leveling. You really had odd downtime on how well you could even out your ilevel with gear. Accessories was the biggest offender. On topic, MSQ doesn't take that long and you're gonna have to chew through it.

Yes I mentioned HQ gear here's why:
You really don't need to craft your gear until you work on a secondary. You are also rewarded one piece of loot for your class every time you played a dungeon. They want people to finish MSQ as quickly as possible so we don't get threads crying about how they can't progress in the next expansion because they have to go through story or people crying about spoilers. This is a story driven MMO, and they need to drive people to that end point first . That's why crafting is always secondary. You are given the gear, finish the first thing instead of getting sidetracked with all the other stuff you can do. Sure "we don't pay your sub" but at least have some sensibility in trying to prioritize finishing something and worrying about crafting later.
Ok, least you said that - but Culinarian really doesn't have this problem. However, you still skipped over correcting yourself from fact and opinion.
