Simply put, if you have a job who can equip the gear, you can "glamour" it to ANYTHING regardless of class or level. If I had a level 1 WAR and 99 THF, but I have all the THF JSE sets, I can "glamour" those JSE sets onto my level 1 WAR, even if I'm butt naked. The only restriction was weapons for animation purposes, but in 14, that wouldn't make any difference
Not true. Style Lock is deactivated if you change Jobs in FFXI (meaning you lose whatever appearance you have glamoured), thus preventing you from adding AF to the wrong Job just like it is here in FFXIV (if it actually allowed it, then that is something that was only possible for a short time and was changed, as shown here:

This category has the same effect as the /lockstyle commands. Selecting “Static” will lock the character’s appearance.

The conditions for a character’s appearance to be automatically unlocked have been changed to the following
    When changing jobs.
Although I do agree FFXI's Style Lock is a better system than FFXIV's Glamour Prisms, it's not perfect, and has it's own set of issues. And as has been mentioned, it was only implemented into the game anyway because FFXIV had already implemented it, FFXI is merely playing catch-up. Either way, although the current system can be improved, it's better than no glamour at all. People should really be grateful for what we have instead of constantly demanding "MOAR!" First World Problems I guess...

SE is not a charity and we have no obligation to simply be "grateful" for whatever crumbs they deign to let fall.

I'm struggling to find the part of NintenPyjak's comment that wasn't true. XI lets you glamour any gear you wish, to any job, as long as you are actually able to wear that piece of gear normally on the main job. So for example if I have RDM, WHM, PLD, and GEO leveled to level 99, I could use any piece of gear that I could normally equip on one of those jobs to mix-and-match a new outfit for myself - and I could even apply this to my level 1 PLD that I'm leveling if I wanted to.

Also, AF and other job-specific gear is completely fair game. These are not locked.

Here is a picture of my THF wearing all WHM gear.

And here is my level 1 PLD wearing the same glamour set:

Lockstyle lets you save 100 different sets, and all you have to do is go to the menu, find your desired glamour, and equip it. See screenshots for the process:

Yes, when you change a job, you do lose the style, but all you have to do is go back into the menu and equip it.

IMO, XI's system is far superior to XIV. It's really not complicated at all, it's totally free, there are no glamour crystals to use, and it lets people come up with some really unique outfits since everything is available to use (provided you have the job leveled).

Also, all screenshots were from this morning, so none of this is outdated information. Right-click to enlarge if you're having trouble with the text - I didn't have time to crop things to make it easier to see
