Flawed argument. Different market back then. Technologies and systems were still being developed in the MMO world. That excuse doesn't fly now; what's more, this isn't Square Enix's first MMO. It's like saying every new car company that crops up has to go through a Model T era before they can be expected to build modern cars.

Can you show me an mmo from 2010 that had a glamour system similar to current day WoW, or GW2?
You do know that 1.0 was released in 2010, right? Y'know, that MMO that failed horribly and get redeveloped into the MMO you're currently playing? The same MMO that's likely still using code from its 1.0 era?

Yes, current day newly designed MMOs are developed with features like that in mind. Yes, I'd love it if XIV had a glamour system similar to current day WoW/GW2, but those things take time when developed for an MMO that wasn't designed with a system like that already in place.

    I'm right there with you!

I can (sort of) understand if XIV doesn't want to borrow ideas from their competition, but this is something that they implemented in their own MMO. Instead of creating something similar, we get a system that is overly convoluted and restrictive.

And two additional pictures - just to try and show the ease and range

To make a gear set in XI, all you do is select the gear from the list that you want to use in a particular slot..

.. and voila! This is not a cute look, but it's using 4 pieces of AF from 4 different jobs (Corsair hat, Thief body, Geomancer legs, White mage feet).

That XI system would be so good. Not quite as good as a proper glamour log for collecting and dealing with issues like cash shop gear you cannot store, but awesome for fashion experiments. When I heard that they were considering some kind of list feature I thought the worse, but if they just rip their own FFXI system idea off that would be a most welcome change.

I would be sooo happy if they went with the XI style - or something close. Honestly, I just want all gear to be unlocked to use on any class, and for glamours to work even on your low-level characters. This is the one thing that would get me off my lazy ass and actually start running dungeons and leveling jobs.

If they did bring this change, I would also hope this was accompanied by a proper glamour log as well.

In XI, you will normally have multiple sets per each job, and the gear is switched actively during battle - so the gear has to stay on you (they give you an insane amount of storage to compensate for this). XIV obviously doesn't have that same system, so the glamour would just be an inventory burden if they don't create a log as well.

I agree. I was going to point out the same thing and the merits behind it. Given the point that XIV is at, I would hope (relatively) free customization would be an option some time in the reasonable future. I get that there would be limitations for models that do not support the given weapon/race, but job armor limitations are obviously not one of them. I quite enjoy the freedom to customize my XI characters.

Yeah, I don't wanna hear a single peep from the "AF gear must be restricted!" folk after all these posts. Clearly XI doesn't suffer.

I stand corrected then. Although given FFXI is virtually on life support now and they're basically giving formerly long sort after items away for basically nothing now (via the monthly login rewards - I got a Joyuese and completed my AF 2 sets for several Jobs from the rewards from one such event for instance), it's clear the bare bones development team for FFXI simply does not consider things like consistency in Job appearance as important anymore. Signs a game is in it's Indian Summer. (Incidentally I'm really sorry if it looks like I'm bashing FFXI here, I love FFXI and treasure my 13+ years I've played it, it's just I don't try to hide my preference for FFXIV over FFXI).

Hence you will not see that here - FFXIV is still in it's prime, and as I have mentioned previously Yoshi stated long ago why gear is restricted to Job here in FFXIV (and thus so is glamour), to him the image of a Job is just as important as it's role and abilities, hence the restrictions on what gear can be worn by what Job. And it is not going to change. That's the reality of the situation, accept it or not, it's not something SE are going to alter.

    Yeah I agree

It's one thing to disagree with another person's ideals and respect it. And it's another thing to force them to change their ideals just because you disagree with them.
A lot of the people that want job/class gear unlocked need to learn basic respect for other's opinions. The dev's opinion is that they value classes/jobs looking in specific ways.

I personally disagree with that idea but I respect it
More people need to learn respect

Hopefully they can start adding gear that isn't Artifact gear into gold saucer, specially leveling gear or old gear that doesn't need to be locked anymore.
