Stop buying things that aren't account wide. Problem solved.

All of this stuff should really be account based except the consumables. There's no acceptable excuse for character locking this stuff. And before anyone comes in and tries to educate me on economics, I'm well aware of the business case - though I think account locking with a lower price tier for single character versions has a better business case. Regardless, the business case is not an acceptable excuse for the anti-consumer pricing and usage limitations imposed on MogStation items.IMO I think all cash shop purchases in regards to minions, mounts, glamours, emotes should be account wide to all characters on the account while keeping consumables such as dyes and fantasia and furnature items as single character per purchase. Though the bigger annoyance to me is that if I make an alt on the same world as my main my alt doesn't have access to my house on my main or an easier way to transfer things from 1 character to another since I haven't found a way to mail anything to an alt either after making one as an experiment.
That was said some time ago, before the upgraded servers and expanded inventory space. IMHO it's a poor excuse at best, and no longer relevant in any case.I believe Yoshi-P explained it once that if they made all of the purchases account wide it would take up too much server space or something, because they'd need to add another "reminder" to one's account every time a new character is created. How true this is I don't know, but that was his answer of it. I believe it was asked about in a Live Letter Q&A not too long ago (if someone remembers and can link me to the actual source).
Macros are saved client side, after all. All what was done was adding an extra macro file that is shared by all characters.Interestingly enough we can share macros now between alts. Would be nice if they increased this capability to mounts, housing access and more. The having to pay for each item on mogstation for many of them there is just not fair and we already pay an additional monthly fee for our alts.
Ownership of items, on the other hand, is saved by server side
And except event items that was not account wide during the event

But as it is in most MMOs, events items shouldn't end in Mogstation but be available at least the next year if notevery years.
It already is a problem it ends in mogstation, they at least need to be account wide.
This game looks more and more designed to fit the chinese market :s

I get the feeling that whoever is responsible for their database servers is a gigantic tightwad and is like "NO, WE CAN'T SPEND MONEY ON A BETTER BACKEND!!" at every turn.
And that's the polar opposite of how it should be: the database is the very LAST place you want to skimp when it comes to developing an MMO...

I would rather have someone who is fanatical about protecting the database against being overstressed than someone who takes a more laissez faire approach. The protective admin will preside over a system which is reliable and performs well, the other will constantly be in meetings to discuss failures of the system or poor performance. Which would you prefer?
It's more that the database and associated systems sound like they're extremely poorly designed that's the issue.I would rather have someone who is fanatical about protecting the database against being overstressed than someone who takes a more laissez faire approach. I believe it was said that the system uploads the entirety of every character's database every 15 seconds or something, which is why there are so many issues about not letting the database get too large.
Yikes, if that's true it does sound like a lot of unnecessary data is being loaded. It's more that the database and associated systems sound like they're extremely poorly designed that's the issue.
