    Both Shell and Protect should be canon in Final Fantasy games!...

    Instead if thinking about removing a spell better think about giving us one more: Shell so we can combine it with Protect and get that old feeling of having shields guarding us from damage!...

    Is Protect purely cosmetic!?... Probably yes, because it's effects are so weak that most lazy healers don't even bother casting it in dungeons!...

    The solution!?... Boost Protect's effect so it becomes mandatory, increase whatever it does to no less than 25% so everyone wants to use it!...

    The biggest problem with removing Protect is that the entire game has be retuned for the 15% damage it reduces. Outside of a fledgling SCH or AST that never did CNJ, every healer, always had protect. I would think the raid damage calculations always assumed it was present. Otherwise unavoidable AoE and Tank busters would wipe/kill far more often than they do.

    +1 to this idea. Make it like a BRD song, you have to active it, make the MP cost pretty high, say 25% of the max MP bar. Thus, if the healer(s) die the entire party loses it and has to suffer for a reasonable chunk of time without it.

    The simplest solution is to turn Protect into what the old party stats were.
    It'd just be an always on Aura effect that you get for having a Healer job in the party.

    If they removed it, there's yet another WHM skill that went down the drain.
    They need to remove Repose/Fluid aura and give them something else too.
    I have removed FA and Repose from my bar.
    I have used FA a bit and I "Miss" so...
    I would not mind Protect being revamped
    but have no problems with it currently.

    imo protect basically just exists so that when I'm running dungeons with PUGs I can get yelled at for not recasting it again after the DPS died to mechanics for the fifth time.

    I'm fine with it as is, but I do agree it could be something better.

    As it is now, it's basically a mandatory thing at the start of every fight. However after a party member dies, it needs to be reapplied, and so if you don't bring it with you into the fight then they will fight without it.

    Instead of getting rid of it, they should just get it off role action and let every healer have it - same with esuna. Having important spells on a role action screen doesn't help but force us to take a spot off our bar.

    As Sch I feel its necesarry to have Eye4eye. And while I toggle prot off to take it, when someone dies its usually me who raises them, and i feel that grumble of not having prot on.

    Largese is pretty important. Swift Cast is a must. Lucid Dreaming is a Must. Esuna is a Must (if in low level content/raiding. Honestly I toggle Esuna more than Prot) . Prot is important. Eye for eye spread important. oh wait that is over the limit well shit.

    I don't want to lose Fluid Aura, we have hardly any spells left as it is. Even watered down (heh) it's better than yet another space on my hotbar. Admittedly I seldom use it for anything sensible.

    Woo-hoo, hitting a button at the start of the dungeon is such engaging game play.

    Get rid of it.
    Having to constantly reapply something like the way Stoneskin was, is also not engaging game play but from the direction of this thread, I am weary that SE will decide to do just that. To me it seems like the role slot real estate is the biggest issue.

    We don't need a "fire and forget" spell. For Protect to stay, it should have a strategic use. It could be a raidwide mitigation cooldown so that you should analyze when is the best time to use it.
