    Get rid of protect because we want another role skill than to hold onto it in case people die. We don't need set-and-forget (despite egis, faeries, turrets being fairly set and forget for years). We're also very lazy about switching it out.

    Okay, taunting people aside, the only reason protect's use and effect is being called into question is simply because it's tied to a role action slot now and people don't like hitting extra buttons. Even if the extra button(s) will use the skill, remove the skill and replace the skill with another.

    Protect was not used before 30 to anyone that knew what they where doing as SCH or AST, for high end stuff, they can just have it as a passive, as people suggested in this thread earlier. There is a few ways to do this, either everyone gets a trait to offset the protect loss, a healer has an enhancing aura, or increasing gear's stats.

    It is SE's fault for putting a baseline spell/ability in roles, to provoke people to question "is this necessary" + their sudden want to give less buttons for people to push.

    What would be ideal for me would be giving PLD/WHM a limited protect, like what WHM get in PvP, that is the only way to keep the iconic spell to the appropriate jobs and have it do something. Basically it be nice as some bridge to replace the lost stoneskin. (another iconic spell they got rid of, with shell)
