What happened to SB (story)?

I hope in the future we do not turn into the invading army to destroy the Garleans. It certainly seems like it is looking that way though, I would really wish for two factions. I hope to be a Warrior of Light who defects to the Garlean Empire. I also hope Square Enix puts more manpower into FFXIV so they could do something like this too. They already need to extend their customer support team for this game. Hopefully they put job listings up soon if they have not already done so.

This will never ever happen. It would make so little sense from every conceivable angle. What would possibly motivate your character to do so, and why would the Garleans not just immediately execute you?

You are the Warrior of Light and a strong ally. Why would you execute a strong ally? Are the Garleans stupid? Also, does this mean you WANT to be the invaders and destroy the Garleans? Isn't that what we just fought against in the last expansions?

EDIT: Just an FYI, it is the writers job to make the seemingly impossible possible. Nothing is impossible, you just need to use your brain and work it out.

They aren't stupid. No. But you know. They don't take kindly to us Echo users. We are like the primal summoners that they are scared of. Something that they can't get rid of entirely and something they don't quite understand. (Though I do worry that whatshisname crazy scientistdude might have given them ways to make our lives even worse.

I for one want to beat the Garleans back into the stone age. Why? Because they seem intent on enslaving everyone that is not them. They need to learn the lesson they apparently didn't learn the first time (If their story of being victims themselves is to be believed) Their invasions, even Ala Mihgo's, was not to save any one of the ones they invaded.

That said. As one who likes a good story. I hope there is a faction or someone in the Empire that finds their situation bad and wants to change it which would make for a good story rather than just a war story. (And I believe it is a Final Fantasy trend to have such a thing.) Besides the Ascians seems to have their dirty little fingers all over the Empire and they... I like less. I needs me some intrigue, not just straight to the point black and white war stuff.

As far as Garlemald is concerned the WoL is a monster to be put down. Especially since the Allagan tech they have allows them to take on primals and win without need of the WoL. They also possess a strong enough military that if the WoL defected to them they could safely kill the WoL and then proceed to win over the WoL's former allies with ease. As often times the main reason why they lose is the WoL.

They also possess a strong enough military that if the WoL defected to them they could safely kill the WoL and then proceed to win over the WoL's former allies with ease. As often times the main reason why they lose is the WoL.

The emperor is a reasonable person, as we saw. The enemy is the ascians, not the Garleans. The emperor doesn't trust the ascians, there is no reason to think the Garleans will not trust us. FYI long arsed quest chain to switch factions. That is a matter to the writing team however, I only wish to be able to join the Garleans because I don't want them to be all killed. The story is heading in that direction, it would be good if it became a struggle of factions, while also fighting the ascians.

A snake that betrays it's comrades once will do so again. Can't think of many leaders that would want to deal with such a huge unknown factor as our supposed "allegiance" as opposed to simply nipping a potential problem ASAP in the bud.

They are planning to have this game going for a long time, you can't just think one path is not possible. The only thing harder about making this happen is the writers need to get a bigger team to write two sides of the story instead of one.

We fought against the Garleans because they're genocidal conquerors that tried to destroy a continent by throwing a moon at it. We'll have to eventually force the Empire into disarmament or they'll just continually rebuild and invade, over and over again. They tried conquering Eorzea 3 times between Silvertear Falls and the end of 2.0 alone.
