    Did you not hear about the live letter? There was so much chatter about DRG having a pet that Yoshi said something about wanting to explore this option to the fullest before moving ahead w/ their current plans...

    As for the "delaying patch" thing, I don't know about you, but I don't give a shit about how long it takes for patches to come out. I'm a quality > quantity kind of guy. I'd prefer 1 flawless patch every 6 months to an endless supply of poor content every month to 2 months. So, bring on the delay. More power to em, if it means making a better game.

(on a side note...I hate that -makes each class less unique when you restrict their wpn options, but that's another issue). I realize that it's a lot to take on, but it's worth the effort. One thing I hated about XI is that they never really, fully, utilized Dragoon's potential. They should have found some more innovative ways to portray the different sub job combinations (like they did w/ rdm and whm subs).

    The best thing about a wyvern is that it furthers the OVERWHELMING need to distinguish one class/job from another. Instead of figuring out how to properly "nerf" lancer/dragoon, how bout trying to find some innovative ways to "beef up" the other classes, since as of right now...cnj and thm are GROSSLY overpowered.
    Soooooo...

    Building Dragoon as a positional crit-master class /isn't/ actually a new and fresh take on the job...

    But giving them a Wyvern and making them just like FFXI's /is/ trying something new?

    That's an exciting analysis of the situation.

    I'd rather not have wyverns as a pet-classed Dragoon. Give that to us in the form of rideable mounts that are exclusive to dragoons instead.

    I think this would be a more reasonable solution.

    I don't want a pet Wyvern, I want Dragoon-related abilities, like Freya had in FFIX, breath weapons and (hopefully) Dragonheart from FF Tactics, (instante Reraise!) and new ones they come up with. I want a strong Dragoon, like Kain.

    Something that's been around since before I was born and found in numerous FF titles and other games/stories

    Something that's been around since 2002ish

    Ya, you're right. There's nothing "new" about the pet for DRG idea, nothing at all.

    Whoops, which FF was DRG a positional crit-master in? I must have missed that one.

    P.S., I think now it's my turn to reference the Dragoon in Final Fantasy II that had an alliance with a wyvern.

    But, no, you're totally right, there's nothing at all new about the idea of DRG as a pet job, it's a decade old, and it never really worked very well in the game it was in. Do I think they couldn't possibly ever make a Dragon-as-a-pet-job type thing work in FFXIV? Naw, and I actually like the idea of it as an eventual other available job for Lancer, even.

    I'd just much rather see FFXIV's Dragoon be a departure from FFXI's Dragoon.

    The pet is not new to the Final Fantasy MMO genre. The original Dragoon concept found in other FF titles is new.

    Try to use a little bit of context, good sir.

    Actually, I've wondered if we'll ever get some kind of ability like Trance...it looks pretty badass.

    I didn't mean a "literal" crit-master. I just meant the idea of Dragoon, not having a pet, was nothing new. The terminology has been around since, like....the 18th century, and it had little to NOTHING to do w/ dragons. So, I'd say a decade old idea is hardly considered "OLD" by comparison.
