Final answer: No pets.
Final answer: No pets.
I just want to clarify...I, like many others, do not REALLY want to compromise on the dragoon having no pet thing. I prefer the terminology "Dragoon" to "Dragon Knight," and I'm sure that plenty of other people do as well. So, personally, I'd prefer that SE sticks to a single lancer "job:" Dragoon, and that it DOES have a pet. I did want to throw the Dragon Knight/Dragoon compromise out there, like Engineer proposed, but only to show that there ARE other options. If you people really want a stupid spear class that does insane DPS, then maybe it's *you all, who should compromise. "Lancer" certainly makes sense as an all-spear, no wyvern class, so maybe "Pikeman" or something like it should be the job counterpart: all spear, no wyvern, hardcore DD.
There are plenty of ways to justify having a wyvern as a pet, even with the current Ishgardian Lore. Like I said earlier, as did many others, some wiser, more level-headed Lancers (later to be called DRAGOONS), tamed/befriended the dragons, rather than destroyed them; and as a result, they were granted dragon-like abilities (such as breath moves, jump, etc.) AND were given a young wyvern to assist them in battles.
Now...how SE should go about implementing the pet wyvern into Dragoon's battle style is a little beyond me. I'm sure I could think of something though.
Too late to change direction. There was no information indicating Dragoon would have a Wyvern or a pet of any sort, and going by that, if they decide on the spur of the moment to change Dragoon from a crit-based class to a pet class, that would effectively delay patch 1.21 for four months. And that's a very conservative estimate.I just want to clarify...I, like many others, do not REALLY want to compromise on the dragoon having no pet thing. I'm sure you don't want the entire playerbase mad at you.
Did you not hear about the live letter? There was so much chatter about DRG having a pet that Yoshi said something about wanting to explore this option to the fullest before moving ahead w/ their current plans...Too late to change direction. As for the "delaying patch" thing, I don't know about you, but I don't give a shit about how long it takes for patches to come out. I'm a quality > quantity kind of guy. I'd prefer 1 flawless patch every 6 months to an endless supply of poor content every month to 2 months. So, bring on the delay. More power to em, if it means making a better game.
I'd rather not have wyverns as a pet-classed Dragoon. Give that to us in the form of rideable mounts that are exclusive to dragoons instead.Did you not hear about the live letter? I think this would be a more reasonable solution.

Making Dragoon a pet class would not delay patch 1.21 because pet classes and the pets for them won't be ready til closer to the 2.0 release and would come in the form of a quest like all other abilities for jobs. That is where the balancing would come in. Also Dragoon can still be a beastly crit class with a pet it will just have some adjustments done to the abilities and it may or may not get nerfed. Depends on the community's feelings on the matter AFTER it has been done just like 80% of the adjustments underway.Too late to change direction.
