Or just give back sustain
Or just give back sustain
And the pet takes damage too. What? You think pets are immune to damage? They don't really even take less damage than any other player does. We're not asking for far too much. We had sustain. They took sustain away. We just want it back.
Pete arent immune to damage but tell me what other dps class can start a fight with a shield thats double their own hp? By the time it dies the target should be dead or close to it.
Also the SMN community has whined, begged and demanded things for 4 straight years and any time they cave you want more.
Sustains gone they apparently didnt want a dps class to have an invisible tank thatd lose aggro anyway.
Just tank it with your face and do enough damage such that you kill the mob like every other job. I pretty much never need to use titan, outside that one time we were able to tank ramuh with titan. They'll never make titan mandatory for anything, otherwise the other dps would get shafted.
SMN has some issues right now, but Sustain is at the bottom of my list. Actually it isn't even on my list at all.
The tiniest lala.
Alright. I'm game. Which other DPS class has absolutely zero defensive CDs and no ability to heal itself? Physick heals a 100 or two so that doesn't count. Which DPS class has their DPS tied to an NPC that is squishy has all hell? Which DPS class has a super long recast time to get started DPSing again should said pet die? Which DPS classes whole mechanics could be ruined by an untimely death to their pet?
No intention to underestimate issues faced by SMNs, but wouldn't it be better for QoL just to prevent pet death in party content altogether rather than re-introduce sustain? I.e. in any non-solo duty the pet is non-interactible: takes no damage, doesn't count towards damage split or soak mechanics, doesn't gain hate etc.
You're not. I have no idea why SE hasn't done something like this. In WoW, pet's take 98% less damage in raids and dungeons. Our pets are our damage and, with the way Bahamut works, you can really screw up terribly if your pet dies at the wrong time. I've had it happen. It's two minutes wasted ramping up to summon Bahamut, plus more if your SC is on CD resummoning the pet. I don't mean general positioning but things like one-shot mechanics can really hurt you. They tied the basic function of our class to our pet, more so now than ever before, and then they take away the ONE way we had to keep the things alive. No intention to underestimate issues faced by SMNs, but wouldn't it be better for QoL just to prevent pet death in party content altogether rather than re-introduce sustain? Honestly, with the way SE makes its pets, I'd rather they just take Titan-egi away, give us sustain and/or maybe a reasonable buff to physick, and a defensive CD or two, then call it a day.
I did a little test session just for you. I went to fight a Lv.69 monster from the world, while being in Lv.60 gear. Actually, I didn't fight it myself. I let Titan-egi do all the hitting and hit taking.
It took more than one minute for Titan-egi to die. And even then, even in Lv.60 gear, Titan managed to remove a good third of the enemy HP bar. I didn't even hit Rouse or Enkindle. Of course, me not having any enmity, I was funnily able to resummon Titan-egi so it could keep tanking. But I didn't, since I don't have all day.
I then did another test. Still in Lv.60 gear. On the same monster. I let Titan-egi tank the monster, while I'd only put my two Dots on the enemy and then proceed to ruin spam. Only that. Nothing else.
The fight lasted ~45s. Titan-egi did not die (it still had 2/5 of its HP. Again, with me having Lv.60 gear).
And then a third test. Still wearing Lv.60 gear. Still with the same monsters. I pulled two monsters, and let Titan-egi tank them both. But this time, I used my skills. I used Bane, Painflare, Shadowflare, and even Deathflare (I did not use any Ruin III, I just entered Trance and then used Deathflare immediatly.)
The fight lasted less than a minute. Titan-egi died with the two monsters having around 10% HP left, which I was able to finish quite easily without even having to resummon Garuda or Ifrit.
(Yes, I was able to tank the two monsters myself for a few seconds, without any pet! What kind of sorcery is this?! It's almost like I have more than 1HP! Even in Lv.60 gear! I'm clearly a top ranked SMN.)
Final test. I put back my level 70 gear, pulled two monsters, and proceed to fight with Titan-egi. Used Rouse and Enkindle for Titan to keep aggro, used Ruin III under DWT, and all that good stuff. The two monsters got obliterated in less than 30 seconds, while Titan-egi kept half of its HP.

So, please, again, tell me how completly broken SMN is because Sustain is gone. Tell me how Titan-egi "dies in three hits" when it can almost tank two monsters for a minute with me being completly ungeared and using my skills like a beginner SMN.
I'm not the special snowflake here. I'm not the one wanting SMN to be this kind of demi-god, being able to tank, heal and DPS at the same time while having an undying pet. I just realize that Sustain is not mandatory at all. It was the same in Heavensward, and it is still true in Stormblood.
If Sustain was mandatory, then I have no clue how I did manage to get to 70, doing all my questing with my Titan-egi. Hey, maybe I'm actually the best SMN of all time, yeah...
...Or maybe you don't know what you're talking aobut and you want a useless skill back because you can't do better than managing two dots and using Ruin while your pet is tanking, and that you are frustrated that you can't pull half the map with your job. Poor little you.
It can *almost* tank two mobs without dying. LMAO. Our tank's fine, guys. It can almost tank without dying and it holds aggro just fine if you use two dots and ruin 1 spam. We can all go home now. And do you really mean to tell me that SMN was a demigod because Titan-egi could survive tanking two mobs?
As for how it's broken: we're a pet class. Our DPS is tuned with our pets and the class revolves around mechanics that we are given very little control over. We get ruin 4 from our pets. Our pets have to be alive to summon Bahamut. One mess up and we're screwed. Have you had the fun of summoning Bahamut right before your pet dies? You realize that we have to start from the beginning, right? We're already heavily punished with our Aether flows if we mess up. This is just the icing on the cake. And, no, we don't *need* it. But there's very little in life that we actually *need*, if you want to split hairs on meanings. We can keep summoning out pets and taking minutes to kill two mobs, but it's a pet class and we should be given the tools to properly manage our pets.
As an aside, I apologize for my ad hominem attack comment to you. That was uncalled for and unwarrented. I woke with a migraine this morning but that wasn't your fault.
t's not unreasonable for SMNs to request a more suitable way of healing the pet, it doesn't mean they don't know how to play the role. Fighting in the world doesn't cover the entire issues that SMNs will come across. Pets can die in dungeons especially when enemies have whole screen AOEs (that are impossible to avoid) and the healer was unable to cure it; with awkward targeting because the pet isn't in the party list being the main offender here.
Maybe consider making SMN pets work similar to MCH turrets in that they cost no mp to put down and can easily be redeployed if it's hp starts to get low. Yes the turrets work somewhat different to pets but an extended CD could be implemented to avoid it being abused too much perhaps. Still, I'm sure there are many potential ideas on a solution but it's definitely something where there is room for improvement.
