I love red mage, I had healers die and tanks with low health, heal tank, rez healer, then focus on tank till healer gets their stuff together.

Everyone who's known me for years knows I live and breathe Red Mage. It's almost a discredit for me to speak about it like it isn't assumed. I wish I could play it more but my GF wants it for her main character, and my main character is dragoon. (Lin Celistine was my FFXIV character because there was no Red Mage before hand, and I just could not play Hyrist in a Final Fantasy game as a main without him being a RDM, so he got regulated back.)
So, that's a whole heaping level of bias, but also a large level of expectation.
Expectation I feel Square Enix met quite well with Red Mage here. There's Melee interaction, the spells feel fluid and worthwhile. Every time playing it is a joy.
Yeah its obviously pretty popular, and the DPS it puts out is incredible.
EDIT: I've got Parces right now from Lakshimi, and this thing is just wow...

I love the RDM's style, both visually and in its combat mechanics. Learning the dance took a bit of work, and I still forget to pop Manafication once in awhile, but combat is fun. Normally, I'll main a healer and so I find Vercure to be a source of comfort in solo-play and great in emergencies.
I prefer to be a bit more supportive with my cross-role skills, so I pick up Lucid Dreams, Swiftcast, Apoc, Addle, and Mana Shift. I've actually gotten a few commendations as a result of boosting the healer's mana pool in a few dungeons so far.
The queues are the only downside.
I absolutely love it! It feels so fluid and wonderful to play, and still goes KABLAM!! which is very satisfying. It's also pretty sexy if I say so myself. So relieved all my caster gear didn't go to waste since I dropped smn. I can use all of it for my new main job. <3

I just got THE HAT today. Finally hit 70, and am absolutely loving it. I blew through the levels before really doing much of the MSQ due to PvP, so watching this dapper Elezen in all the cutscenes is amazing.
I have to admit, i was a bit skeptical about how there were gonna implement RDM in this game. Considering is a hybrid class (jack of all trades). Started playing RDM in FFXI and i was hooked on it. Was maining AST and NIN throughout HW.
Now that SB dropped, I immediately unlocked it and lvled it through PvP and PotD due to the Raubaan Savage.... my GF was surprised on how potent vercure was. Love the Dualcast mechanic but sometimes i get tunnel vision and forget to balance out my mana lol. Oh well. Just got to 66 now and cant wait verholy/verflare!!
As for my cross role. I use Lucid Dreaming, Diversion, Break, Addle, and Swiftcast (though i feel that swiftcast is kinda moot skill to have.) Might consider to throw in Surecast after reading this thread and people saying that it works.
Also definetly not used to ripping hate off the tank.....
I'm absolutely in love with RDM.
It's everything I wanted in a class. I always have problems picking a main and until before SB I really didn't know if i wanted to stick with DRG, SMN or start playing MNK.
But ever since SE showed off RDM I instantly knew i would be playing this.
I don't care if it gets nerfed or if its "not meta" I'll play it whenever I can. Both PvE & PvP
I hadn't read the forums since Early Access and was shocked to see the RDM hate! I love the job. I started as a SMN main, but my RDM ended up taking over. Even though I'll still play SMN a lot, I plan on giving both jobs about equal play time because they're just so much fun. Now if only we could save glamours to our job instead of directly on gear. I love my SMN's usual glamour but how can I be a RDM without the fancy duds?
I think the only real RDM hate stemmed from people who forgot RDM stands for "Red MAGE" not "Red Guy With Sword Who Casts Spells Every So Often". It would be nice if the Black/White mana built up a little faster so you could use your swordplay more often though I hear that does smooth out more once you get Verflare/Verholy.
In fact my only real RDM complaint is you have to wait until lv 70 to get your core rotation where most classes get it at 60 or so with the last ten levels usually giving abilities to strengthen that core rotation. It makes things rather annoying when you are syncing to lower level dungeons and don't even have your main nukes, Manafication or Vercure. SE did a much better job with the SAM skill allocation giving them their main damage moves pre-lv 50 with the last 20 levels being ways to enhance those moves and deepen the main skill rotations.
That said, the class does play very smoothly and the utility is decent if a little overrated (it is good for bailing out people still learning an encounter though I don't think Verraise or Vercure will be nearly as useful once people learn the new fights). The AoE rotation (if you could call it a rotation) is shallow but the single target one feels involved and rewarding without being bogged down with too much senseless RNG (which would be the main reason I dropped MCH). It definitely is the most fun I have had in an MMO for years and the developers should feel proud with the quality of workmanship.
Now just please don't mess it up with the patches to come...
