She's essentially a survivor of abuse, thus serves the role of a tragic antagonist very well.
She had her family that sold her to someone bad in the empire which abused her. Thats all (at least how far I have seen it, arrived back in Limsa). She hates a whole country because she was mistreated by a couple/handful of people. And as revenge she killed and tortured countless of people that did nothing to her. How is this the fault of the Doman people? This is over 20 years past and yet she still kills people just because they are born in this country. If she has any kind of redemption then I will just shake my head. If they had shown that the Garlear have her family and she does this all to protect them..it would still mean that she is a murderer but at least the reason would be better. Or if we found out that the whole village tortured her but nothing like that was shown.

There is a difference in killing someone in battle or going around and kill innocent harmless people. (She wanted to shot two old people just because they would eat resources..) I never saw any of the scion or the WoL do something like that.

I am not really sure how his belief of liberating Doma is not justified and right? This country was not part of Garlemald, it was conquered by them. Garlemald has no rights to it. Also we can see that they did not mean well for the Doman people. They were taken in and forced to battle for the empire, work hard even till death, had barely anything to live on and nobody to protect them. At the same time even though most of them kept their heads down and did nothing they still got tortured and killed randomly. As soon as they saw that it was not impossible and that their rightful heir was still alive they stood up and fought for their freedom.

I cant just see how someone like Yotsuyu should get any kind of redemption just because she had a bad past. For me this does not make it a better story, it makes it more into a "do what you want as long as you have a sob story you will get sympathy". The past can shape us but its our choice what we do with it.

And you can be sure if we ever have cutscene with a NPC friend where they randomly kill innocent harmless Garlearn people just because they are born in this state..then I will not find this good and this person should be punished for it. Because there will be always a difference between killing soldiers in battle or innocent civilians.

In general as someone from Germany, Garlemald makes me feels uncomfortable. Especially with their oppression and believe that they are the better race. The experiments on people and using them for testing their poison. Having places where people from conquered lands might have to work even till death and much more. Thus I cant sympathize with them. (And I am talking about the leaders and people that are deciding something like that. I am quite sure that a lot of the civilians are fine, some might not even know what happens in the world. But this does not make the empire good.)

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
