Interesting that your point of view only focuses on other games and their problems at launch - why not expand it to every piece of software you can purchase and look if you'd react as "forgiving".
Let's say you own a company that just purchased a new piece of software that is vital to your day-to-day business, but that software doesn't function properly and thus you 1. your people can't work properly and 2. you are losing money because of it.
I bet in that scenario you won't be making excuses for the company with things like "new servers" and "give the devs some time" - more likely you're either going berserk or you're close to letting your lawyers off the leash if there isn't some major miracle happening.

In essence you make an arbitrary case because "it's just a game".
