You have 20 different outfits you carry around in inventory? It's that kind of nonsense that make people want a glam log. I just simply gave up on it until they make a better system for it, it was easier. But your idea of a glam interface is awful. Hopefully they have better UI designers than that. Digging through 20 different armor sets to find exactly the right piece sounds just as boring, though.

There is nothing they could cut from the game or their content pipeline that I wouldn't happily trade for a glamour log. Casual raids? Sure whatever. Hardcore raids? Don't care. Never add anything to the gold saucer again until it's done? Great. No more experimental content like potd, diadem, or aquapolis? Fantastic. No expansion again for the 4 years it takes us to unbork our backend? Fine with me.

Yoshi P give me the dang glamour log!
This post is beautiful. I adore it.

I once spent three hours in armored core trying to decide between main hand weapons and generators, and gave up on changing my look in Phantasy Star after getting six shirts. Yes, I absolutely loathe excessive UI windows.

With all due respect, while your concerns are valid, I think you might be blowing things out of proportion.

Hell, they already have a better interface - the Marketboard. It's not ideal, but if they simply stripped out the selling aspect and changed the "Try On" option to "Glamour" (with the search function being limited to items you own), it would work better than what we have now. Couple it with a few more filters (Dungeon gear, Tomestone gear, Trial gear, Raid gear, Storyline gear, Crafted gear, Event gear, maybe one or two others), and the system would work just fine.

Also, I'm with you; I've given up on Glamouring until a better system is implemented. I have my one outfit that I like, I re-Glamour gear to it whenever I find a piece that I'm going to "stick with" for at least a week, and that's the extent to which I interact with Glamours.

    I want a glamour log.

And I'll keep asking for one until its engraved upon Yoshi-P's very soul. Divine assault...

I'll lean towards troll. She seemingly takes the opposing side of every highly debated topic. It's just a little too coincidental.

I just wanted to add that a Glamour Log or Wardrobe or whatever once implemented should actually require less data than the existing system, especially going forward as the number of items increases with each patch.

If an object is placed into storage, you need to identify the item and how many of that item are stored. Since there are about 15,000 items in the game and you can store stacks of 99 let's say that that takes 32 bits for every item stored (not necessarily accurate for every item, but let's use it for napkin math since it's the "worst case" scenario). This is in my limited imagination the best way to do storage because inventory is not a dense list, you only can store about 1/10 of the items in the game and most people store a much smaller fraction than that. Furthermore there's not a simple pattern to what items people have in their inventory.

In contrast, with a glamour book you can populate the list of glamours with an ordered list of Booleans because every character has the same possibilities for gear stored. That is to say, if the client stores a list of gear [Hyur Boots, Hyur Undies, ... High Allagan Booties ... Thavnarian stripper dress] and the character stores a list of Booleans [True, True, True, False....False], by combining those lists you can make a dictionary that tells you what items are stored in the glamour book. That list of Booleans can be made into a binary string ('1110...0'). Since there are about 10,000 gear items in the game, you would need 10,000 bits to store all the data for the glamour book for each character. Because there is a pattern to the gear people have (say you haven't cleared the latest raid, you would have none of those items) you could compress this list somehow if you wanted to make the data even smaller.

Going by this, it's theoretically possible that the entire glamour book could require only as much data as 300 inventory slots for each character. A player who buys the maximum number of retainers has about 1000 instanced inventory slots so the glamour book would actually need only 1/3 the data to store 10 times as much gear and should be possible in terms of server strain since the current number of retainers is possible.

I really hope that they read threads like this one just to get some more ideas for a future glamour system..because putting things behind achievements will solve nothing if not all the dungeon gear is behind it. I am not really sure why they cant just see: If having a glamour log constantly with you is bad for the server, then simply have one place for it. Really I sometimes get the feeling that they just dont want to do it but cant say that outright..But you cant just go around and introduce glamour over glamour in each new patch/event/expansion but do nothing against the glamour space problem at all..also it would be nice to be more consistent with your answer. In one older interview its not possible, in another its possible but not high priority (gotta get all those retainer money..)and in another there are even more excuses about it being too difficult and stressful.

I also dont agree that a glamour log should not be high priority. This is a game where content is often only run again and again to get certain dungeon gear/minions/mounts. If you have a glamour log people will run old content again, simply to get sets or to have a full glamour log. Also since not every cash shop costume is storeable you will loose money there too. At the same time people might not feel like running certain content if they have no place to put the glamour. And lets not forget that the other MMOs out there have that stuff, even F2P MMOs..not having that might leave you behind at one time.

But please..before you create a system..talk about it with your playerbase..because after Diadem and LoV I fear that they want to create the wheel again thus making it way too clunky or complicated that it needs to be.
