There are two sides to everything.

First with Dark Matter, now with NPC repair costs so low, most people only offer the same grade of Dark Matter or maybe a few hundred gil in tip (above the cost of the matter) as a "reward" for helping them repair their stuff.

I've pretty much stopped repairing strangers' stuff.
It's not worth using my in-game time for that.
