What I consider more fair is something like 5$ per outfit, 10$ for account wide. 1$ per emote, 3$ for account wide. I would buy it for that, honestly. It's hard to resist it as it is because I reaaaally want all 3 of those beautiful 18$ outfits quite a bit. But I was below the poverty line for most my life so I really value my money much too much to frivelously spend it on 18$ virtual shirt and pants when there is so much more that is far more worth it.

I used to think COD DLC was overpriced to hell but it's a freaking full course meal compared to this one french fry. To hit closet to home, another SE game: FFXV, had its first DLC priced at 5$ for a new 2 hour dungeon and story, new playable character, new trial mode, new outfit, and new sword. 5$. And I still see people say THAT is overpriced. They'd probably have heatt failure if they say this blatant theivery at work.

But i am well aware they won't be changing it anytime soon. Not only would it be unfair to those who HAD bought it previously at the robber's price but they know they can get away with it so they'll keep at it.

Holy hell, your comment really hits home for me.

I'm fortunate to have a well paying job now and i could afford the items, but $18 could feed me for the better part of a week. If I'm going to blow cash on stuff, I want value for money, which I am not getting here. D: I've known real hunger, so even now as an adult I am very careful about where my money goes.

And before someone mentions "But you're paying a sub!" I am paying $9.99 for an entire month's entertainment (thank you, legacy pricing<3); that's far cheaper than most hobbies and totally worth it imo.

$5-7 per outfit, period - account wide. That's the price point I'm used to in other MMOs.

I picked the option of there are things I want, but I find the price too high (though I can afford it), so I don't buy.

What game are you referencing? $5-7 is pretty cheap compared to the games I'm used to for full outfits. The only one I can think of in that range that I've played is the original Guild Wars, and that's likely because of the age of the game.

    E.g.
Guild Wars 2: Outfits cost 800 gems each, which costs $10 to purchase. Most individual pieces (e.g. just a weapon skin) cost from 300-600 gems which are the $4-7 range.
ESO: Full outfits cost 1000 crowns each, which costs roughly $12 to purchase. Single pieces (e.g. just a shirt or just some pants) costs 500-700 crowns, which costs roughly $7-9 to purchase. It's hard to give an exact price, because it's not possible to purchase crowns to exactly match the cost of the items.
WoW: I don't play WoW, but looking at their store shows that just a single helm costs $15.

FFXIV optional item pricing is pretty comparable to the market standard for current games. Whether or not that standard is something to agree with is another statement entirely.

I was slightly lowballing it in my original post, however...

GW2 outfits are actually 700 gems, which actually comes out to $8.75. All of their costume stuff unlocks account-wide.

I can't check the exact price of Rift items (game is in maintenance atm), but I recall them being ~$7-8. They also unlock account-wide.

WildStar costumes are 790 Protobucks, which is roughly $7 as well. And... again, account-wide.

These games all also have a way to store item appearances without cluttering your inventory, which makes purchasing them appealing. Even more, not only are they b2p/f2p, but you can actually obtain the outfits without ever spending real money. GW2 lets you purchase gems with gold; Rift does the same with plat. WildStar puts an Omnibit price on everything in the store, which is a currency you earn by playing the game at a pretty decent rate.

Those are the prices for WoW's Cash Shop. They are all either nearly equal to or more expensive than FFXIV. Why would Square Enix charge a third of the price when people buy everything rather consistently?

Be aware those are all account wide items that are accessible to all of your characters on an account vs FFXIV's pricing it per character.

Because WoW practically necessitates alts. If you want to play a different class, you have to create a whole new character and level from the ground up. Conversely, there is no reason to have an alt in FFXIV unless you're a roleplayer or want to get around the loot and specialist restrictions. Considering most players don't have more than two retainers per Yoshida himself, I doubt many have alts. Therefore, the devs probably don't see it as a big deal.

Where is the "Most of the stuff on the Mog Station is stuff I already have because they were free seasonal quest rewards and I don't care if they resell them to new players a year or 2 later" button?
