SE can't force anyone to be good. They could literally create a program that does your entire rotation for you, automatically pulls you out of AOEs, and explain to you in detail every mechanic and how to do deal with it, and bad players will still find a way to mess it up.

Only thing SE can do is make improvements that will give the player base a better chance on mastering their jobs, without sacrificing the difficulty of it.

No, the visual HUDS will not automatically decrease the disparity substantially, but it will definitely give players who may have had a hard time keeping track of things a much easier and way more fun way of doing it. That in turn will alleviate one less thing to worry about so that they can focus on other aspects of their jobs, as well as help them pay more attention to the fights themselves.

A HUD will help, but so would a DPS meter. You state "at all", but what's your reasoning for that? There are several reasons why a parser might help someone improve their play:
    • Provides feedback as the player adjusts to newly learned skills
    • Highlights areas for improvement in team play, when notably underperforming
    • Provides feedback to help understand at what point AoE > ST

Increasing the DPS Disparity was a huge aspect of a lot of the live letter, and was not exclusive to this one slide. The new gauges are to help visualize things, which will help people focus on the fight vs their buff bar, but that's coupled with easier rotations.

It seems overall, you are having a difficult time grasping game design. A players ability to play well is directly tied to the user interface. If the UI adds elements which make monitoring job mechanics easier, it will naturally help the overall player-base's ability to manage said job mechanics. Will it magically make everyone a top tier player? Of course not, but that's not really the goal.

oohh very critical. I'm curious to see how it helps people, and I'm hopeful it improves the gameplay of others! I don't think theres any need to be critical until it comes out and everyone tries it out

It might help some people but it only tackles part of the problem. I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people who struggle with the current button bloat and that's not actually changing it just isn't getting worse. Not to mention the AFKers/Netflix watchers and the community that enables them.

YoshiP specifically outlines the problem they are trying to fix and why. And then spends about eight minutes explaining how they're going to fix it. But its not going to work, because the problem isn't the HUD.
It will work. For the playerbase this is targeted towards. They aren't putting this in for the portion of the playerbase you're talking about ie. the braindead. They're putting this in to help the casual's who aren't braindead while also being a nice quality of life change for the more hardcore.

Even if this doesn't help 50% of the playerbase... it would still help the other 50%. That's a success in my book.

Exactly. This is the wrong solution to this problem. It might help some, but it won't shrink the DPS gap. They're trying to compensate for player stupidity by making big blinking glowing indicators. It'll help other people though.
I guess you could say that this is the fidget spinner for modern UI design.

So what you're saying is that it will work?

You don't need to fix everybody because you can't fix everybody. The system in a game could be 1-1-1-1-1-1 and you'd still have people mess it up by not hitting 1 every cooldown. Having said that, even if it helps some- it's a success.

Gasp! You won! You win the prize! You are the perfect representation of why the stated fix won't fix the stated problem. Thank you, thank you, thank you. <smooches> <hugs>
Doesn't read, doesn't care. Probably spams Ruin II while afk following and watching Arrow.

It seems like your argument is that it will help some people, but won't help other people, and because it doesn't help other people, it's a failure.

If that is the case, then your thread is also a failure. You've managed to convince some people of your point, but others didn't buy into it.
