If I recall I thought the idea was simplification , if Im runnin 5 or more instances in a day do I really want to change my abilities 5 timers per instance not really. So what your sayin actually defeats the purpose of what SE set out to do , do you think those players that dont even read tool tips are gona even attempt to switch these out. Aree that new tank or healer that bought a jump potion and got to level 60 u think they gona be switchin their stuff out all the time not really. I actually prefer to have my skills there and not have to worry about changing them.
Some of it, the other idea was to pull out abilities that were similar or served around the same purpose and put them in cross role so they could make room for additional abilities that increased job identity without increasing the amount of buttons.
They took out the throughput actions (Raging Strikes, Internal Release, Blood for Blood) and pure damage actions (Aero, Blizzard II) because let's be honest people would take those and replaced them with utilities that could be situational but not make or break if you don't have it. The only exception being Esuna since sometimes you really do need it. (I don't agree that Esuna should be cross-class). Some other stuff also got the axe that don't fall under those categories but I wouldn't be surprised if the main jobs that carried them still have them.
Some people are just going to take 5 and call it a day. Others will have macros that change them.

The system is not being simplified for players that don't read tooltips, they have said plenty of time [especially over the live letter] their big concern is how many abilities you can map to the cross bar.
Over and over they kept saying how this is going to be better for gamepad users [on every platform.]

this is how I feel too, I find the idea of swapping them out the way they showed to be a big pain in the !@#$. they should have a seperate hot window for that or a way to macro hotswap them and make it so that those skills always swap the slot they take on your hotbar
if they make it so you can macro swap these skills so you dont have to open the window that would be great. but it still doesnt solve the fact that some of these skills should be given to the respective job without selecting them
they showed roles as a section, why not have a "important actions" selection with the most important stuff your job can use and put all of that there then just get rid of the job section keeping it seamless

I am not trying to be rude, honestly, but how can something that takes a few seconds be a big pain in the ass? Like... I get that you don't want to do it and that is fair, but come on now, aren't we being a little slightly over the top here?this is how I feel too, I find the idea of swapping them out the way they showed to be a big pain in the !@#$. they should have a seperate hot window for that or a way to macro hotswap them and make it so that those skills always swap the slot they take on your hotbar

not trying to be rude here but just because you dont find it a pain doesnt change the fact that it is extra steps in a system they claim they are trying to simplify.

If it makes you feel any better about it, they took out the cooldown restrictions on changing jobs in the field. Maybe they took it out for changing skills too?
I used to be an adventurer, but then my ping increased.

To add on to this. You'd have to change your hotbar, too, as once a skill you had on the previous cross-role selection is replaced it'll serve no purpose being on your current hotbar - meaning you'd then have to either toggle to a different saved hotbar or manually replace a skill(s) every time.
So, a whole bunch of swapping around things; perhaps even numerous times in an instance if you wish to be optimal for each encounter and boss. People are already impatient and quick to rile up... this will only give them another reason; also I can't say I'll be too pleased with having to wait for a guy to do this and that, nor doing it myself. Whole bunch of unwanted and unnecessary tedium.
