Having a parser won't magically make you a better player, using a parser to know where you are failing and working on that makes you better.

Or you could just use Stone, Sea, Sky and practice to a mirror shine without a parser. That works too.

I'm starting to think this feverish desire for a parser is becoming less about the 'benefits' it would give and more cause people are being told "No, you can't have an official parser." But they really, really, really want it and won't take no for an answer.

I'm guessing you didn't read anything in this post or you don't raid because DPSing in a fight is different and any raider knows that so go back to reason #3 and #4.

Oh no, I read your post. I don't agree with it. You don't need a parser to improve. You just need the drive to improve. Stone, Sea, Sky is perfectly fine for practicing and examining your rotations and how effective they are. Also, there isn't much to practice, all needed info to optimize your job is readily available online for you to read and mimic. If you wanna practice and improve on your own and create your own style though? Stone, Sea, Sky is perfectly fine for this. You killed the dummy in 90 seconds, now kill it in 75, now 60, now 45. That's how I trained and I see no complaints about my DPS in raids. And I regularly play with at least 2 people who use parsers and have never heard a peep from them about my damage.

Again, its feeling more and more like people want a parser now cause they are being told they can't have it and refuse to take no for an answer.

And I love how you assume things about me just cause I'm not jumping on the parser band wagon.

You realize a parser doesn't teach where you are going wrong, it just shows you the number, you the player, not the 3rd party software, still need to explore how to make that number higher. The software doesn't scream "HIT THIS SKILL, THEN THIS ONE, AND THIS ONE, THEN THAT SKILL." It doesn't promote your skill, you already have to have the want to perform better.

So... you're relying and basing your argument on the fact you play with people with parsers who can see if your SSS practice is working and would let you know otherwise?

FWIW, I'm not bashing SSS. I think they were a welcome implementation to the game.

In response to the first part of your comment, if you are telling me that a parser alone will make EVERYONE improve, I am calling BS. All a parser does is show you a number that may nor may not be 100% accurate. What the person does with that info is up to the person using the parser. Not every single player using a parser will choose to act upon those numbers in a positive way.

If you are saying that a PERSON using a parser COULD improve, then I will agree. Which is why I said, "will using a parser help someone improve? Maybe." As stated above, there is no guarantee that a parser alone WILL make someone improve, as you put it. The possibility is there however.

As for the second part of your comment, sure you can find harassment any where if you look for it. Introducing a parser that is built into the game will just add another tool to encourage harassment from certain players. I am not saying you will harass another person, because you use a parser. However it also doesn't mean another person using a parser won't harass someone because of some number.

For your third comment, again your term of fun and mine differ. Your definition of fun will differ from other people in your static/fc/group/friends how ever slight the difference may be. End of story.

I once raided with someone who boasted about their SSS numbers, and they were good, they knew their rotation. However, in raid, their numbers were worse than mine (the PLD). SSS doesn't translate into a battle situation very well. It's nice that you can practice on SSS and be good in raid, but the two don't equate, you are missing phase knowledge, dodging, mechanics, and interruptions to your rotation that all affect your final damage output.
