Well gee, if you would shut up about being so sensitive about your FFXI status, maybe I would be able to see that we actually agree. You argue with the jump community because you want to make a certain point. That point is that jump should be implemented correctly. WE ARE SAYING THE SAME THING. So stop going against every little thing I say, cuz it goes both ways Jennestia Senior Moderator of FFXIVCore.com. Moderate yourself.

In Terra here, you can knock the boss down and attack him while he's laying there. It may not be much but it's something. I remember seeing a video in the early stages of the game where they were fighting a boss and using a chain to pull him down to the ground and then hit him. Don't know if that is still possible or if they removed it in the final version.

Blade and soul. The boss battle at the end of the video looks a lot more interactive then what most MMORPG do today. You don't just stand there and do a rotation of commands. You move around and use strategy and that has a lot more depth, fun and strategy to it.

yeah i knew that FFXIV and WoW were more action then traditional rpgs, but i could tell from your proposal that you were taking about more action than is already implemented. the the terra online video reminded me of monster hunter, which i agree would add more in terms of battle mechanics. i wouldnt be against that, but i feel like jumping onto a monster would be alittle much. they do also plan on making more strategic boss battle by requiring that you attack specific parts of monsters also.
i was not able to see the second video, it seems its not available in the country im in o.O so i cant comment on that.
but if it were knocking down the enemy as shown in the terra video that would be cool, add alittle more strategy to the fights.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 may not be an MMORPG, but its still a turn-based Final Fantasy game. Jump doesn't look stupid in FFXIII-2 because SE knows how to incorporate jump properly in their games.

Funny how the so-called biggest FF fans dont trust SE to implement jumping properly.

Yet whenever jump is brought up the first thing people do is attack FFXI players. (just read the OP.) So of course I'll argue a point, since most arguments/suggestions for jump degrades into attacking FFXI players as a whole.

That point is that jump should be implemented correctly. WE ARE SAYING THE SAME THING.
Exactly, yet I get called a 'FFXI conservative" and my stance made for me instead of putting aside the fact I play their other MMORPG which automaically means I must be against it? (Yet I have an active sub for 3 of the biggest MMOs that utilize jump in even combat >.>)

This is what boggles my mind with the Gravity Boots crowd.

If I want to see that sort of thing I will go play WoW, was the most anoying thing about WoW, well other than the stupid PvP junkies trying to challenge you all the time to silly duels.
Leave the level 5 quest hub and your problems are solved. People don't jump around like bunnies in WoW. This is an exaggeration that is used all the time and it's simply false. Some people jump a lot, but I never see people jumping non-stop for more than 20 seconds or so. I can jump in real life. You not wanting to see me jump doesn't mean I should have my kneecaps broken.

People really need to get over this, "I don't want to see it, so it shouldn't be in the game," attitude.

I want this game, like everyone else minus the FFXI players, to be a HUGE SUCCESS. Meaning i want it to be WOW successful, and while i know we will probably never had the number of subscriptions WOW has, I'm still hoping this will become good enough to have 5 mil subscribers and more. The fan base and potential is there.

This is a MMORPG, and thus i want this to have as many people playing as possible. When i login, no matter what time, date or server i chose, i want to be no shortage of people i can play and share this new FF adventure with. As opposed to this becoming a niche with probably only FFXI's old fanbase of about 50k pple and that i waste hours just trying to find a good group to play with.

For this game to become that successful, it needs to please and attract as many people as possible and that will only be achieved by offering as many options, gameplay styles and pleasing as many gamer tastes as possible.

We can't achieve that goal by focusing on a group that is already small and who is already willing and playing that game. We can't achieve mainstream success by limiting ourselves by what we can do and offer. We need to give a little something for everyone. you want NM, FFXI features etc... sure... have them, but don't deny me what i want or what someone else wants and finds fun. By giving everyone something they enjoy we will make this a lot more appealing to the masses rather than by restricting ourselves to what 8 yr old game had to offer.

As an FFXI player I find this post somewhat offensive and I'm sure that I'm not the only one.

I most certainly don't want FFXIV to be a clone of FFXI. In fact, when I first saw trailers for FFXIV I was very saddened because the races resemble each other so closely. I remember being disappointed and saying to my friends "I don't want to play an FFXI clone." Mind you, this was before there was much information on FFXIV. Clearly the two are not clones of each other and should never become as such.

However, please don't misunderstand. I often will make references to FFXI to prove a point. FFXI has given SE a lot of experience with MMO's that I think they should take a closer look at.

They should decide what worked for FFXI and see if they can apply a better concept of it for FFXIV. Which is what Yoshida is doing with other MMO's anyway.

Also, another thing we, FFXI players, do is point out some of the huge mistakes SE made with FFXI and how they fixed them, if they fixed them at all. We do this so that SE realizes these mistakes and doesn't repeat them with FFXIV.

That being said, please don't make blanket statements about FFXI players. I think it's more than a little unfair for you (and others) to say these things given the fact that FFXI players were among the first players in this game. Many of them are still here trying to do exactly what you're doing here, make FFXIV a great game in its own right.

The 2nd video didn't show knocking down but a Taru sized mage like character, running around the boss and shooting fireballs and spells from afar, while moving to avoid the boss' rolling attacks and fire breaths. That too could be compared to monster hunter, but just adding that sense of danger and trying to kite the boss and not just keeping your distance to avoid it's attacks but actually dodging these attacks looks really fun. I prefer just that simple touch to just standing there being hit on purpose and waiting for heals while i spam 1,2,3,4.

That type of gameplay was not possible 10 yrs ago with the engines we had and servers or the lower speed internet connection, but today the possibilities have increased by a lot and we should take advantage of it. These examples i gave don't do anything over the top but simple things like that make battling more fun.
